I think I was just pigeon-holeing myself in regards to this exact situation and how silly I found it that people were happy to blame Carney specifically within hours of a story (about a private company doing evil) getting published, literally less than a few weeks totally of them specifically doing this particular evil.

    I agree with "the government as a whole institution is to blame." For having this type of private business at all.

    You are right that there are better ways to "guide" selfish idiots into driving slower, and the set fine means that it stings people like me (thanks for the underhanded insult though!) ruins others and means nothing to some. That's a much bigger societal problem.

  • Fun fact: once people get ticketed, by and large they slow down. Then once enough people on the route get a ticket, TRAFFIC slows down.

    Source: I was there for Parkside. It was wild watching more and more people shift to a slow speed. You could literally tell who'd been ticketed for a few weeks in the middle. There was a short time where I'd call it "chaotic" because enough people were slowed down but a large enough percentage were still speeding and you basically had a road with 2 speed "limits"

    Within a few months it had all settled and now people drive slower there. I got one ticket. I paid it.

  • Not reading article, don't actually care. American Express can suck it. They put the average person through hell to get $10,000 credit. They should have been more responsible with this person. Unless they can show they did the usually consideration, gradually upping her credit over time with responsible limits, that's just the risk of doing business.

    Ok I caved and read the article. Lady makes bank (or was faking). Why did she need a $600k+ limit? What is she putting on a credit card that would lead to that amount in such a short time? American Express wanted their cut, they got burned.
