  • This.

I am the person you are talking about. I’ve looked into graphene before and I do host some of my own services at home. I also work full time and I don’t want to spend all of my free time managing things. I use F-Droid, but I am on stock android on my pixel.

I appreciate the privacy and FOSS nature of F-Droid, but I use things like Android auto Google maps for work, I use banking apps on my phone as well. I know technically micro G and blah blah blah, but like I said: work full time.

  • I was running an old t410 with dual X5650s for ages. Super power hungy. I’ve recently moved to an older Dell Optiplex 7020 with an i5 4570, running 32 gb ram (not supported according to dell, but works fine). I’m running like 7 vms on proxmox and I haven’t seen any issues.

I just spun up a second 7020 as a proxmox backup server and my whole home lab power consumption went from around 130 watts to around 170 watts.

Its the good ol’ telco monopoly. Doesn’t help that our population density is basically nothing. We’re the second biggest country by land mass, but have about the same population as California.

I’m not sure who we need to pressure to get better service for the money…
