  • I don't think I necessarily like Harry, but I sure as fuck empathize with him. Playing him as someone seeking redemption or trying to put his life back together (and SO OFTEN failing) was incredibly meaningful. You put it very well.

    For RDR2 in particular, I found it so irksome how on-rails the missions were while the rest of the game was so free form. If you're going to make me follow in the footsteps you planned exactly, don't tease me with freedom between your set piece sequences. Ride-shoot-ride is also not super interesting to me.

    I've come to believe that the Rockstar formula just doesn't work for me after GTA4.

  • I've been enjoying Nordic Souls as a Wabbajack pack. It's got gameplay adjustments that do change the difficulty curve but is closer to the base game in difficulty than many of the other prominent mod packs. It also has a smaller footprint (~100GB maybe?) as compared to some others. Skyrim feels more modern and fresh, for sure.

    I downloaded it on a whim after I used Wabbajack/Nexus Premium for some Fallout New Vegas modding (went with Viva NV). I wanted to get full value from that premium sub lol.

    Edit: I will say that I don't think Nordic Souls includes Legacy of the Dragonborn, so I'd look into that and choose another pack if desired.

    1. What's the energy like on set? Are there any particularly strong jokesters? Tim Russ on Voyager was noted for cracking a lot of jokes, for example, and I think Michael Dorn and Brent Spiner had a similar reputation on the set of TNG.
    2. Are you into science fiction generally? If so, what's your favorite book, movie, or tv series?
    3. What do you wish people knew about SFA (or you!) that they don't seem to?

  • He's good at messaging from a Christian left perspective. Before I deleted social media, some of his more viral moments on the Texas House floor would make it to my feed. I liked what I heard, but I'm not a Texas resident or voter so Crockett vs Talarico is someone else's judgement call to make.

  • This was one I loved, but it wasn't at all what I expected when I read the Steam blurb. "Be the kind of cop you want to be" or some such nonsense.

    But, yeah, it's basically an existential novel masquerading as a game, and if you don't like (or at least find it interesting) spending time as the protagonist, then it makes sense to be a hard pass.

  • I'm in this boat with you. A few months ago I restarted my Valheim server for friends... And only one person joined me, for all of about 30 minutes. I spent a bunch of solo time just building up a base and trying not to progress too far so I wouldn't ruin the fun.

    I've been toying with the idea of doing a Zomboid server, too, but I know it will be the same. We'll play as a group maybe twice, and that will be it.

    This isn't ruining my day, but it seems like a clear example of a problem. And you're actually being weird by arguing over this "useless shit" while claiming you're not. I don't believe your way of living is better if you choose to get annoyed by people being annoyed at something, rather than being annoyed by the thing itself. That cancels out.

  • I had a classmate who expressed the same porn preference, although they weren't obnoxious about it, just casually mentioned it once. I remember being flabbergasted by the idea at the time, thinking that seemed like some pretty weak masculinity. Well, she came out as a trans lesbian a good few years after we graduated, and I realized I was bisexual somewhere in the same period. I guess we both figured out what we liked eventually 🤷‍♂️
