  • It takes me 2 hours to travel by bus where it takes me 30 minutes by car in my city. I can't afford to drive so I cycle. Badly planned routes by for profit bus companies is not how to create a useful transit service.

    The real kicker is that the same company does the buses in the neighboring cities with more social clout and they are really good and win awards. People with cars there bus most of the time. They know how to make a good bus network. They choose not to. Our city has more people, even, but they alienated the drivers so thoroughly, it would take a generation of completely overhauled good service to rebuild a trusting ridership base beyond the desperately poor. They've built themselves this super expensive problem just to save a few bucks 40 years ago.

  • I'd watch an Anakin/Wolverine show. First half, anakin gets sent to Northern Alberta with nothing but his wits. He meets up with Logan, after a few episodes as rivels they work together and become friends. Second half, they figure out how to get Anakin back and the who the villains who sent him there are. Logan comes with, brcause they are basically be(a)sties now. Logan gets lightsaber claws. Anakin gets even.

  • Taking other people's creative works to create your own for-profit product is illegal in every way except when AI does it. AI is not a person watching videos. AI is a product using others' content as its bricks and mortar. Thousands of hours of work on a project you completed being used by someone else to turn a profit, maybe even used in some way you vehemently disagree with, without giving you a dime is unethical and needs regulation from that perspective.

  • Internet moderation needs to be performed dispassionately. It's administration, not leadership. But still, it appeals to power-tripping, self important assholes who have no interest in curating a functional community but instead ensuring everyone thinks and acts exactly like they do. The larger lemmy gets, the more of these awful moderators make up the moderation team. There is no mechanism in place to prevent this. I don't even know how such sa mechanism would work, but as soon as one is figured out, the Internet will be a better place.

    The capitalist system is large because it enriches the greedy and powerful. Why bite the hand that feeds you, even if it starves others. A system's prevalence is also not any garuntee of goodness or fairness, just sustainability. Capitalism has beenaround for a few hundred years and it's already falling apart. Monarchies governed almost all humans for thousands of years. So capitalism is worse than the system it replaced by your metric.

    We don't want eastern authoritarian communism, we want western socialism. Take the Nordic model and turn it up to 11. No dictators, but no billionaires, just people still working, just a little less often and getting a little more for it. That's all. No homeless, no hungry, free university childcare and healthcare, otherwise life is not that different for the already doing okay working class.
