  • This was also the reason why Mette Frederiksen had to wait until the legitimate bribe (fødevarechecken) had been completely finished in parliament before calling the election.

  • Site has been down for my entire workday. I must be entitled to compensation :/

  • So Denmark's constitution has this "fun" little quirk where any legislation "in progress" (waiting to be voted on in final form) is automatically cancelled when an election is declared / called. This effectively means that parliament doesn't do anything useful during an election, but it also means that Danish Governments attempt at placating the masses through a cancellation of the chocolate tax (one of the remaining "sin taxes" from the 90s / early 2000s) was just cancelled / voided, along with the removal of VAT on books (something that was estimated to save an average family a whopping 500 DKK per year).

  • I would like to add a fun little trivia thing. The removal of VAT on books (meant to encourage Danes to read more, as a symbol of our obviously superior culture being eaten by slop) and the removal of the special tax on chocolate and coffee was never passed in parliament. It was voted on twice I believe, but never made it past the 3rd vote, and now the election has been declared, meaning that anything that hasn't passed parliament a 3rd time is going to be tossed aside (litterally a requirement in our constitution that all currently ongoing legislation be tossed when elections are called). So like half of the bribes that the government was trying to get passed haven't even been made into law.

  • I feel your pain in not understanding shit about the people who vote for the Social Democrats. Like, I mostly don't understand anyone who doesn't vote far left, because I genuinely don't think any of the other parties are going to do anything useful.

I remember when I was working at a Danish university and some of my colleagues were talking about seriously voting for Liberal Alliance. I was floored, because this was when LA had all but declared war on the university sector, as the university was apparently too woke.

  • I know like 4 people who have this specific setup at their house. It's kind of sad.

  • Denmark had it's own version of this ad. I usually reference it when I talk to my coworkers as a way to ask "how do you think people become leftist / communist".

  • According to Danish state media, it's at least 30.000 as well. Seems to be mostly people with an ideological reason to believe them who accept them, but I've also given up on almost everything to do with Iran, aside from asking if they think American bombs will help.

  • Is Joe Walsh taking the side of the libs in this case? I thought he was one of those people who openly jerked off to footage of liberals getting brutalized by cops.

Edit: Was thinking of Matt Walsh. Just saw the last name and the handle of "WalshFreedom" and made the mental connection. Thanks for all the comments.

  • At this point, Cramer has to know about the Inverse Cramer index. Like, he has such a following at this point that he has to know how much he sucks at his job. I think if you followed his advice in most cases, you'd be down something like 45% year-on-year.

  • I've also noticed what you're saying, and it feels so odd to me, because I was definitely raised with the explanation that the Nazis were bad because of their crimes against the Jews, but also that Europe mostly cares about that specific crime because jews are considered European (which is a whole other brainworm in it-self, but I don't want to argue every stupid thing my parents believed). My dad was also way more anticommunist than my mom, so he still thinks that Stalin was way worse than Hitler, or at best, equivalent. My dad also grew up in Apartheid South Africa, which means he used to believe a lot of stupid shit about history.

  • The EV Hummer was the greatest car ever conceived. It weighed almost as much as an early soviet Tank and had way longer breaking distance. It was destined to be the car that destroyed the US

  • LMAO, Danish State media has been on a roll tonight after Trump and Miller's comments about taking over Greenland (again). They interviewed a bunch of people on the street, and while most were expressing anxiety and uncertainty, one old man just more or less threatened to shoot whatever yank decides to set foot near his home first.

Also, apparently Denmark is still trying to offer security guarantees to Ukraine, which is even funnier now that the yanks are coming to take our colony from us.

  • A couple I know is expecting their first child and they have both seemingly got caught up in the stupid facebook video algorithm that mostly promotes "health experts" who know fuck all about immunology. I've taken to just looking at them both and asking them "why go through all this trouble with pregnancy and morning sickness and child birth just to immediately kill you kid afterwards. Might as well just kill the kid now and save some trouble". I've had some success with it, but jesus christ their arguments are raising my blood-pressure.

  • Fun fact, I work with a guy who used to be a tax-advisor in Arthur Andersen. He left the firm in the late 90s, which means he managed to get out right before the whole shitshow came crashing down circa 2002. The guy I work with never worked for the American branch (main branch of the company). He worked for the danish subsidiary, which was apparently mostly advising the early IT-startups in Denmark back then.

  • The right in Denmark is very fractured, but there is a re-alignment happening as we speak, and the rural chuds are abandoning the traditional liberal / rural parties in exchange for the flat out fascist Denmark's Democrats (the main talking point on the far right in mainstream politics has been the topic of remigration, which is a nice way of saying state-enforced ethnic cleansing). The libertarian right is also picking up people through culture war shit (particularly young men who are "against the wokeness") but they are almost entirely based on the fact that they outspend every single other party in the last election and also the fact that their leader is a pretty average looking handsome dude who is able to articulate his positions without shitting himself, something the rest of the party lacks). The Conservative Party is shedding members to the fascist parties (plural), but don't seem themselves to be running on fascism or austerity (at least in my area), and in fact they ran on improving funding to the local schools and child-care facilities.

The Social Democrats have moved quite a bit to the right in recent years, and they seem to have shed a lot of people because of unhappiness with the ruling coalition. Unfortunately the people who move on from the SocDems seem to be moving equally to the far left and the far right (while still solidly within the sphere of parliamentary politics). There are some local parties claiming to be revolutionary communist, but those are mostly trots with 5 members, so nobody takes them seriously.

  • World of Warcraft somehow still going while League of Legends goes down is amusing to me.

  • The Americans perfected the global infinite money murder system and turbo-charged it, which prevented a bunch of national liberation movements from ever achieving material improvements compared to what they could have done. They also successfully delayed industrial development of those nations for a long time, which I guess europeans would agree with.

  • I've repeatedly clashed with various family members who studied political science because their definitions are usually dumb and/or wrong. it's a breathtakingly propagandized degree.
