Original account. i also use my discuss online account.

  • Shit didn't even exist until like 10 years ago from my perspective.

  • (tin foil hat)

The government... They control the weather information... Satellites... Weather machines... Snorts cocaine we can't trust them we need to trust our eyes...

  • I'm a programmer and I make a pretty decent salary, enough to support my family and weather any emergencies.

The free time I have, I would do these in this order:

    1. Hang out with my wife and kids
    2. Chill out with recreational things like gaming
    3. Continue to study, read books and take online courses, contribute to open-source and build applications for startups
    4. Convert that free time to $100/hr

Notice that trying to make MORE money is at the bottom for me.

And if you ARE money driven, working hourly isn't how most people became rich. They usually win the lottery by doing a hobby that ended up paying dividends. Like building a app and getting bought out, or collecting Pokemon cards or something.

  • You mean like how most things are anyways?

  • People underestimate how much work is involved with anything involving selling online content. This isn't just Only fans.

But if it's an hour of work to make $100, why wouldn't I?

There are people giving plasma for money.

There are people jacking off animals for money.

There are people who spend hours scamming old people for money.

Time is a investment though. Unfortunately $100 a hour is not the best use of my time. But maybe it is for you and your situation.

  • In a weird way, this is a good technique called reframing.

It's very common to beat ourselves up.

  • I did a sample size quiz with my coworkers. Most of us do a morning coffee poop. Maybe not first thing in the morning. But usually within the hour.

  • Pretty sure it's Vin Diesel. Because he picked family.

  • A bus? With all the other peasants?

  • Yep. I work in tech and there's a guy who cannot stop bragging about his millionaire status and is so ridiculously cheap.

  • Reflecting on this, I've been to maybe a dozen cities in the US and this is "technically true" too.

Maybe what I want to say is convenience. In Tokyo, you might take 1-2 trains routes, tops, to get anywhere. Then it's also a very pleasant walk to get to your destination.

Where In Seattle, Philadelphia, Austin, and New York, those cities have a lot of routes. But then you're walking in some sketchy places, or it's next to a highway or wide open parking lots. Some cities don't even have good routes. Like my city, to get from 20th Street to 100th street, I have to ride to the hub on 1st street, to then take another bus. It's like an L-shape.

Maybe those cities aren't big enough. Kyoto, imo, also would fail my convenience test. Where Osaka, another major city, would pass it.

  • Not oblivious at all.

  • Fuck Cars @lemmy.world

Car owners in NY are devastated!

  • Another commenter shared Tokyo, and I can explain what they did:

    1. Tokyo as a whole made it extremely difficult to own cars. To own one, you need to prove to the government that you have a dedicated parking space. There's also a high tax on it and on insurance premiums. My Japanese friend told me how his family used to car share with the entire neighborhood. Uncertain if this is a Tokyo thing.
    2. Public transportation is ridiculous. You are always about a 10 minute walk to a subway or bus.
    3. Highways are underground, which encourages cars to get out of the street level.

Birds with red eyes are coming

  • They do. Government orgs are just extremely slow and have a lot of stupid ass inefficiencies.

I did contracting work for a gov website that involved a revamp. It took two years for the work to get to me, one month for me to finish my first pass, and then three more years before it finally launched.

    Five years.

  • Hey, you're missing all the opportunities to be charged a service fee for looking at your ticket!

  • I prefer a paper pass.

Maybe I'm old school and I keep printed maps, tickets, all in a folder on my suitcase.

My phone has all that info too. But then it's a single point of failure. And I've absolutely had the paper ticket save my ass because my phone could freeze or restart at critical moments.

  • Not necessarily true. I hate the whole phone treadmill where a phone battery sucks after two years. And the repair costs as much as another phone.

So I held onto phones with like a few hours of battery life.

Easier to just print out the tickets and not have to micromanage my phone.
