  • Can confirm the viable gaming. Some need fairly annoying workarounds that require some regular fiddling to adjust (looking at you EA/Origin with your silly launcher), but in the end it’s definitely playable.

  • Yep, same. I love my non-existent children too much to bring them into a world which I only really see getting worse in their hypothetical lifetime. Also helps me have a bit more resources to support the little ones of friends and family to hopefully help their lives suck less despite what they were born into.

  • Our one cat has learnt to communicate with us using buttons and currently knows 44 words. 3 weeks ago I started teaching other verbal commands. She knows “give paw”, “sit” and “come here”. She also frequently opens doors and drawers and breaks into everything she can. Also she instantly manipulates any visitors by begging to be picked up and giving their nose a little lick. She appreciates car rides and going on adventures.

Our other cat licks smooth plastic, bites sticks off of plants and looks behind the tv to see where characters went after they walked off screen. Anything unknown (like new people) sends him into a panic, but usually he flees exactly into the wrong spots (like the exact spot those new people are obviously walking towards).

  • The job allows me to spend a lot of time volunteering and doing good deeds on the side. I don’t think I could use the cheat code for just any company. My main problem is that I’m very anti-capitalist (don’t have a solution, just think we have proven thoroughly that this isn’t it). Getting a different job won’t fix my problem.

  • You are still fighting a straw man here. Please point me to where I said all sports should be desegregated? It’s a very complicated issue and trying to segregate into 2 strict groups by sex at birth is a very messy, very imperfect solution. What some doctor thought was going on when they looked between a newborn’s legs is just not nearly as important as some other factors.

To give an example of a split I would be in favor of: Segregation based on factors relevant to the sport (like height and how far people can throw a ball for basketball). You can split into as many groups as needed and hey, if you’re right it’ll work out to an even gender split anyway, right? This just happens to be a way more inclusive way of doing things also avoids the weird situation of minors being harassed about their gender expression. Unless of course you want to specifically make people uncomfortable and want to exclude certain people. But that’s not the point you’re arguing, right?

  • Ok, fine. If you need a list here’s a list. Women excel in any type of endurance swimming, anything involving riding a horse, rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating, long distance running, shooting, archery, and sailing-sports.

Women and women’s teams also regularly beat men at: tennis, racing, soccer, basketball and wrestling (also highscool, college and Olympic-style amateur wrestling, not just the scripted WWE theatre thing). Want sources for all of those? Because I’ve got all of them.

I’m not wanting to “require mixed gender teams”, but I do feel like there are many better options out there than strict gender or “sex at birth” based segregation. Especially since we know nowadays that sex at birth has so many more than 2 categories and gender is a spectrum. I’m sick and tired of people of many different genders (and especially women) being victimized for the sake of “protecting women”. And I have sources for that too.

  • The idea that women need “protection” from competing with men was always more about control than it ever was about fairness. The argument of women somehow being physically worse at sports is just not accurate in many cases. Actually there are a lot of sports in which women have an inherent advantage over men.

Yes, men on average have higher bone density, greater muscle mass and larger lung capacity. However women tend to on average have a more efficient fat metabolism, better cold tolerance, a lower center of gravity, higher flexibility and more stable fine motor control. Also some people tend to beat the odds and win despite supposedly being at a disadvantage.

  • Moved from Austria to the Netherlands at the age of 19. I moved in with my (then) boyfriend so that made the transition easier.

It was weirdly more of a culture shock than I had anticipated. Mainly because lots of things (besides the architecture) are so similar that the differences kind of sneak up on you. Having German and English as a base made Dutch easy enough. Got an advanced language certificate and ended up getting the nationality, found a study I liked and plenty of job opportunities. It has been over 15 years now and I regret nothing.

The only thing that didn’t work out was that relationship.

  • I am not sure if you have discussed AI in a room full of hackers recently, lol. I have. Maybe 1/100 is pro-Generative AI in my estimation:

  • To me this is a difference between a chaotic type of untrustworthiness and a more stable type of untrustworthiness. Wouldn’t want to pick either if it can be avoided.

  • Well ideally I suspect people would just want a product without the spyware.

  • If it hits the US it kind of hits Israel too, seeing as they are one of the biggest suppliers. Sadly plenty of other countries supply Israel too, so not sure it would make enough of a dent.

  • It might have been the only official justification. However I suspect that there’s unofficial ones, like “we are worried it’ll come with spyware that directly reports everything to China” or “if we do this we might becoming mainly dependent on Chinese cars, which then means China can pull them out from under us, maybe disable them remotely, etc”.

Depends on how much they thought this through and how much they trust China now and in the next few decades.

  • I just wish work didn’t force me to take a front seat and interact with MS products anyway.

  • For me it has also been gaming. Some part of my brain is always reminding me about all the chores I have to do and all the crafting projects I could be working on instead. Also the cats keep on demanding attention every 5-10 minutes so that takes me right out of the flow if I ever manage to get into it.

  • Don’t give them ideas…

  • Just curious (and I’ll probably regret asking): what is the “trans agenda”?

All I see is people who just want to have a right to exist, so I guess that could be an agenda?

  • And simultaneously half as attractive.

    0*2=0 0/2=0

  • Honestly, I do feel like weak, smug and untrustworthy is pretty spot on. Would still pick that every single time over a republican who is also very much weak, smug and untrustworthy in addition to desperately wanting to be a fascist dictator. But yeah, the 2 party system really leaves a lot to be desired.
