  • I use a lot of adobe programs, like photoshop, illustrator and Lightroom. The standard MS office stuff and a bunch of games both via steam and the EA AppStore, some of which are windows only. Mind you, I know most if not all should work using wine (or similar) or have good alternatives. But I’d rather try first before nuking windows.

  • I tried setting up a dual boot Mint next to my Win 11 last night. Just so I can experiment with getting all the (replacement) programs of my Win 11 install to work on there… froze during install and was busy for hours getting my boot files for Win 11 back.

I’m not a technical genius or anything and now I’m scared to try again. I assume it’s way easier if I would just rip the bandaid off and do it in one go. Sadly too much relies on me still being able to use the computer close to the way I could before. Ah well. Another day, another chance to nuke the boot files.

  • I think he wants it removed because of the effect on Tesla. He’d prefer if he could do things without consequences for his actions.

  • dont leave anything behind (especially anything from your own body)

That line reminded that I heard at some point that it’s not uncommon for burglars to leave behind a pile of their own poop in a place they broke into. Don’t quite recall the explanation, but I think it was something about adrenaline and fight or flight. Can’t find the source right now but if I do I’ll post it.

  • Weirdly there’s a child-like innocence about him and Smithers being infatuated with him also helps to humanize him further.

  • Honestly that is something I’ve always been ok with on Kickstarter. But it’s 50% scams now of people who never intended to deliver anything in the first place and Kickstarter is taking a lot of steps to protect the scammers in this. The only reason I ever back anything on there anymore is because of campaigns by companies I trust will at least try. I trust Pebble will try, so I personally am very tempted.

  • This comment just made my week.

  • I don’t know. It takes a while to get organized but I have confidence that they’ll get there. At least based on what I’m seeing at the moment. Could obviously still just slowly die down again. Time will tell.

  • Everything I’m looking forward to is all in my personal life. We’ll pick up a new furry family member later today and I’m looking forward to getting to know them for example. Looking forward to learning new creative skills I can use as an outlet. Globally speaking I’m currently not optimistic enough to look forward to anything.

  • I too appreciate this potato.

  • Wish I could take credit. I’ve seen it around and it just fits perfectly when it comes to all those tech bro’s and the way they are acting in relation to politics and power. It’s now just part of my vocabulary.

  • I love Pixelfed specifically because of the artsy, visual inspiration. I dearly miss browsing through my instragram feed and getting incredibly inspired by seeing people create amazing and beautiful things, including using techniques and crafts I had never even heard of before.

Pixelfed is starting to kind of be that for me, but Reddit did some of that too. Some of the most niche crafts even had their own subreddits. I just want to be able to be inspired by my social media feed again - ideally without algorithms aiming to get me stuck there. And without the broligarchy threatening to take it away at any moment.

  • Sure, but I still suspect that we’ll get a large influx of crafters and other artists that will be visible in Lemmy directly. Still very much excited

  • This is absolutely perfect! The crowd I am following on Pixelfed is pretty much exactly what I am still partially missing on Lemmy. So excited about this. Thanks for sharing!

  • It doesn’t help that Tesla are also screwing over the people who buy them. I have heard so many horror stories of what happens when something in your Tesla breaks. Most of it sounds like purchasing a Tesla doesn’t mean that Tesla thinks you actually own that car. Lookup “Tesla right to repair” for just a taste of the mess.

  • Sadly a lot if not most of these changes will take generations to reverse. It’s the sad reality of things.

The main good thing I am taking from the news currently is that as far as I can tell the people won’t accept this for very long. Can’t quite yet tell how or what will happen, but I’d be surprised if the current regime are still in power in the same way 1-2 years from now. The protest are amping up at an intense speed, the videos coming out of the few republicans still giving town halls feel like the crowd is a pot about to boil over.

  • Makes sense. This is doing decades of damage. Plenty of past groundbreaking research came out of the US. But I get it. I wouldn’t want to move to the US either for very much the same reasons. Lack of affordable healthcare, lack of paid holidays and gun safety would be the main reasons. Lack of food regulation would also be a concern. And now the current regime and the way too large chunk of the population that still seems happy with it means we put even tourist travel plans to the US on hold. Too scary at the moment. Trying to help the best I can from here, but there’s only so much you can do at a distance.

  • All numbers I’ve seen for record applications were for high level research and university level teaching. Maybe the medical doctors mainly moved states? At least I haven’t seen them making headlines about moving to Europe.
