  • Our cat is basically fearless and gets bored easily. We like closing doors in our house upstairs to keep the temperature of the house more stable. Naturally when she is in one of those rooms we don’t want to lock her in so we try to get her out. She made that into a game of chase combined with hide and seek. Eventually that grew into a game she’d initialize throughout the whole house where she’d randomly fake-lunge at us and then sprint off. Or she’d hide behind a corner to ambush us. Sometimes we’d chase her. At other times we’d run away and hide and she’d come to find us and once she found us she’d run away again.

Problem is we’d be done playing after 5 minutes. She’d want to go on for 30 minutes at least. Anyway, she doesn’t initialize anymore since we got her a kitty friend. Now she plays a similar game with him that will sometimes go on for an hour at a time.

  • More than 6GB per minute in 4K? Because that already seemed like a lot.

  • Alright, fair. Noted. Just because their marketing calls it ProRes RAW doesn’t mean it is true RAW. I didn’t look into it that much.

What I do know though and what my point was about is that it makes big files fast. Files of a type and scale you can’t effectively do anything useful with on an iPhone itself. So if you want to edit them (and why else would you shoot in that format?) then step 1 is that you want them off the phone and on a platform that can deal with them. And for that transfer speed matters.

  • There is at least 1 use case for it: some of the newer iPhones can shoot raw format video. Apple calls this ProRes. It is also possible to take those videos as large as 4K. This comes out to about 6GB per minute of video taken.

Imagine someone like a YouTuber decided to take a couple of 20-30 minute clips. Yeah, I wouldn’t want to wait for wireless transfer on that. Especially not if that is a regular thing someone does.

  • Here I was laughing at a silly man trying to forbid something that never happens. Now I’m sad again. How on earth is this the lived reality of so many children? Can’t do much from over here in Europe but what the heck.

  • Yeah, this is definitely just someone who got told (possibly even by a band member of Rage Against the Machine themselves) what the songs and the band are actually about. Doubt a single song will ever be made.

  • Well, if Pakistan got it right this might just be disconcerting enough for India to abort this planned attack . Even if Pakistan didn’t get it right or are maybe even bluffing it might create an international reaction that could cause India pause before any future attacks.

  • I suspect that’s exactly the reaction Pakistan is hoping for.

  • Pavement does heat up more in the sun. Might have been a mainly sunny day.

  • I feel there is a certain maximum amount of influence a for profit company should be allowed to grow to. They have long surpassed it.

  • Honestly I think there’s a strong difference between people reacting to content who are adding value (eg adding meaning information, elaborating on their opinion, etc) and people who “react to content” just to get away with reposting the content. The second group tends to try to obscure as little of the original video as they can get away with and if you subscribe to them you effectively get a pre-curated list of somewhat interesting videos (if you can ignore their heads or a silly automated voiceover).

Sadly both groups often don’t credit the original creators, so whoever actually made the original content tends to be out of luck regarding getting their fair share of revenue or digital traffic.

  • Eventually she noticed all of her children were pulling away. She had to go through a world full of pain to accept that her behavior might have something to do with it. I am still surprised that she even got to a point of accepting that. Whatever happens with your parents I hope you can find closure and happiness in your own way.

  • For almost all of my life I’d have said no. But after over a year of family therapy I think I now have a mother who sometimes listens. She needs to follow it up with an emotional guilt trip, but she does actually sometimes listen first. Baby steps I guess, but it’s more progress than I expected. And my father is… well… still my father. No chance there.

  • I mean, he seems to be hinting at that now, but he can’t really do anything else. “Whoops. Didn’t think this button I pushed would do that” is just not something he is able to say, even if it might be true. Then again it would be difficult doing something this extreme accidentally I would think.

  • If China stops exporting these to the US that should influence the trade deficit in the way Trump is looking for, right? Isn’t that what this was supposed to do according to Trump? So he should be happy about this, right? Because it’ll bring the manufacturing of the minerals home? /s

  • Technically I’m still on it. I just stopped interacting there. Might post on some of the niche crafting subreddits sometimes in the future because I miss those on here. For everything else Lemmy is far superior. Decided to “switch over” when I found out that half of my comments and posts got shadowbanned.

  • Thanks, I’ll look into that!

  • I’m loving mailbox.org as an alternative to Gmail and Magic Earth as a replacement for Google Maps. Also I’ve been using Ecosia - both the browser and the search engine. Sadly the search engine is just a reskinned bing, but they are involved in the project of making the first real EU based search engine. And once that’s out I’m looking forward to using that.

  • Good call. I have 2 hard dives and really thought that if I didn’t touch the win 11 drive it couldn’t possibly cause windows issues. Lol. Not making that mistake again.
