  • It's because it was pretty much the Netflix of video games. Pay a subscription and you get access to a collection of games.

When it was 5.99 it was a no brainer. I think I cancelled mine around 13.99, though not because of the price but because I always forgot it existed and it tied me to windows. Switched to Linux and cancelling was a part of that transition.

  • The moon is slowly migrating away from the earth into higher orbits (due to the earth spinning faster than the Moon's orbit), eventually it could escape with a gravity assist from Mars or Venus. It'll have tidal consequences for Earth, but not like catastrophic (though I suspect it might allow the earth's core to cool a bit faster, which could be the beginning of the end of life on earth).

  • I remember back when they were Vin Diesel jokes and then suddenly people were doing them with Chuck Norris instead. And I wondered why people were so into that guy on the Texas cop propaganda show.

  • Air fryers dehydrate things well, leaving less moisture to support bacteria that would make it rot.

That's actually why that sealed McDonald's meal didn't rot. Leave food out like that and it dries up, thus won't rot.

Similar thing is why having an open garbage can stink far less than a garbage with a lid. The lid traps moisture, which means it can support more life that creates more stink that gets past the lid than the open one has in total because it's able to dry.

  • One time one of mine fell out but I thought it was just sitting wrong and first poked at it to rotate it, then tried to pinch it off for a bit before realizing it wasn't even there and I had just been poking and pinching just my eye for a few minutes.

  • I grew up in the mp3 era, like fuck I was going to pay actual money for my phone to play a short sound clip when I got a call.

Instead I spent money to get a USB to whatever proprietary connector the phone had (that was specific to that phone), found a converter that would do wav -> whatever weird format ringtones needed to be in, figured out where in the filesystem that file needed to be, and then I had my FF7 battle music ring tone.

And these days, despite it being a lot easier, I just haven't bothered setting a custom ringtone. Where did I use to find the time to care about that shit?

  • Author is either a troll or drank the apple marketing koolaid.

  • If it were the case, how would one prove it or even show evidence for it? And similar question for if it isn't the case, how would you disprove or show evidence against it? I'm not even sure how one would prove that cats have a concept of species.

  • Well I'm counter suing because when I got served with your lawsuit, it gave me the nastiest papercut!

  • This is one of the reasons I won't consider traveling to the US because I think how any of those work out is going to depend on the luck of how others involved are feeling in that moment.

  • I find the "AI slop" commenters as annoying as the "that didn't happen/everyone clapped/albert einstein handed you a $100 bill" ones. Their contribution is shittier than what they are commenting on even when they are correct, but it's not rare to see a comment like that followed by the dumbest logic as to why they think that's the case (especially on reddit).

  • I'm still alive and I can see some people going about their day out my window, so yes, there were survivors.

  • Maybe the whole system of getting a bunch of bids and just going with the cheapest bid is fucking stupid in the first place. And the whole treating those who should be partners instead as adversaries where you each try to outmaneuver the other might get in the way of building a reliable system.

  • Things get more violent. Wind tries to find the path of least resistance, though as a fluid, so it's taking all paths in proportion to how much resistance it has (just like electricity). If you increase the absolute resistance in one area, it reduces the relative resistance everywhere else, so you end up with increased airflow everywhere else and a reduction where you added resistance. Which means more wind outside of the turbine's path (because it's going to equalize that pressure differential one way or another). More flow through the same volume means higher speeds and forces (think like turning up the pressure on a tap).

But wind turbines don't have a constant effect on wind resistance; it depends on how fast it's spinning or how fast the wind is moving. When the wind slows, the resistance goes down, and when resistance goes down, wind speed increases. So you end up with an oscillating effect where the wind goes through cycles of strengthening, losing more energy to the turbines and weakening, which means the turbines take less energy, and the winds strengthen again. Though you'd need to be taking a significant amount of that energy to see an extreme effect like this.

Apparently taking more than 53.9% of the total wind energy in an area is enough to slow the wind to a stop (again, a violent, turbulent, oscillating stop, not a gentle end of wind).

  • Plagueis didn't believe in the rule of 2 and allowed Palpatine to take an apprentice. He thought they should use whatever strength they could get.

Palpatine also didn't believe in the rule of 2, but instead followed his own rule of one: he planned on becoming immortal (which the whole coming back was a part of). So he'd take apprentices knowing that they might come for him eventually, and just planned on killing them and replacing them. Like with Vader's apprentices, he just needed to discover them and make Vader turn on them because he wasn't confident enough to confront him directly until RotJ when he was killing Luke (after openly offering him Vader's spot... He hated Vader being broken right from the start, but no one else held a candle to him other than Palp himself).

  • Just that Scandinavians are generally pretty chill but there was also those centuries of Viking raids. Plus, with the whole ascending thing, that's about as far north as he could get.

  • What are you talking about, he did survive it, though he slept for 3 days before going to say bye to his friends then goy the fuck out of there before the sick fucks tried again. He then went to Scandinavia where he taught the people to mostly be cool, but, worried about another backlash, told them that maybe one day they can raid and pillage every now and then as a treat.

  • Which "he"? Obi Wan or Anakin? Or Qui Gon maybe, I could see him doing that soon after getting back to Correscant and there were a lot of significant things that happening off screen during Phantom Menace (eg, that's when the tragedy of Darth Plagueis happens, right after Palpatine secures the Chancellorship, when Plagueis gets drunk celebrating it).

  • The diapers might have been for the target of her little roadtrip rather than herself, because the other things she packed sounded like a shitty kidnapping plan.
