  • I realize you're probably just making a joke but the reality is that there are few people so ugly that no one would have sex with them. Even if you keep your standards high, I'm sure there's many cases of someone whose own mother would cry at the sight of that managed attract a model who is just into that.

But the attitude is very off-putting, more so than whatever physical characteristics they think disqualifies them from love or sex (and a good number of them aren't even unattractive but just have no self-esteem and hate themselves so much they either can't believe someone else would like them or that someone who does must have big problems of their own or is lying to use them).

Even the niceguy attitude is offputting, and the incel attitude is pretty much that but replace the sadness with anger and the depression with rage, and add a bunch of BS masquerading as the science of attraction that proves they aren't attractive and ignores that it's subjective and that there's this weird "so ugly it's cute" category that some/many people seem to have (though it usually applies to animals rather than people).

  • While what you said is true (at least from the second word on), your argument boils down to "the truth is out there so propaganda only works on people who want it to work on them". And while I wouldn't say that is necessarily false either, it does drastically oversimplify things.

And even if anyone who does fall for it deliberately so, it's still good to know that there is a propaganda effort going on and that inceldom and the manosphere aren't just happening because that's how men are. They likely started naturally (because there absolutely are men like that, and women and others) but it's all being amplified to pull in as many as possible.

  • A part that complicates things is that incels, contrary to what the name implies, choose to be incels. Also, working with incels specifically could end up giving a perverse incentive (or whatever it's called when an effort to reduce something instead becomes an incentive to increase it) to be an incel to get help.

  • I'd consist Dark Souls 1 open world, there just isn't a lot of open space and you have to fight to get anywhere.

  • Breathedge has the subnautica kinda feel to it, though it might be tuned a bit on the pain in the ass side (I'm still early in to it and haven't yet decided if I like it, but it has that feel).

Or for a game with more of a crafting/building emphasis, Planet Crafter also gives some of those vibes.

  • Yeah, I was put off by about everything in that game.

  • I don't disagree with you on the evilness that is involved with pretty much all conquering imperial powers (whether it's an empire or republic backing it), but Rome didn't invent that. They made some advancements in military tactics, strategies, and logistics. But conquest was done before them.

Alexander the great had an empire that rivaled Rome's side when he died (and there are other example in recorded history of it being done earlier, like in Egypt, Gilgamesh, and many others). And even the whole "you can keep your culture as long as you join the empire" was done by Persia before Rome did it.

  • I think it's a product of having grown up during the time when accessing commercial applications was about as easy as accessing the free ones at a time where many of the free ones were just pale imitations. And before the enshitification had really gotten going.

  • What is with this art style that makes it look both really good and really bad at the same time? Is it just the poor understanding of anatomy putting the poses into the uncanny valley while shading looks good or is there more to it?

Edit: I think the facial expressions play into it, too. Everyone looks like a meloncholy neutral.

  • People who repeat everything you say back to you as a question and expect affirmation are the worst, especially in your line of work where you have to constantly verbally direct people?

  • No fucking so fucking

  • Under capitalism, it's not enough for a person to be able to make a living providing a good or service to society. They need to be able to make enough to pay the people that do it for them, plus a profit for the owners. Without that profit, owners have no reason to make a corp to provide the good or service, so it doesn't happen, or if it did happen, it gets sold to someone who thinks they can either turn it around or get more than they paid for it by liquidating everything.

But this means that there's pretty much a whole economy available for people to provide those goods and services without giving a profit cut, meaning they can both undercut the for-profit corps doing it while making more than the corps would be willing to pay them.

Think about this any time you see something about a failing company, because it doesn't mean you can't make a living doing that thing, but just that you can't make enough to cover loan costs (which can also be a big factor since business schools like to preach leveraging to the max) and still profit afterwards, after paying all of the workers.

  • So far I've been impressed with what AI can do with coding. I had it write some scripts for me on one of my previous work tasks and it did the majority of the code writing and even majorly assisted the debug process.

And now I'm using it for another task and it's already improved significantly since the last one. You can now interrupt it if if gets stuck in some kind of loop and the required debug phases are fewer. Hell, it's even reading between the lines of my prompts effectively and implemented a verbosity feature in a second script just because I had requested it in the first one.

With the first task, I was holding its hand as far as data structures and such were concerned. This time, I'm instructing it at a higher level. And while it does help that I can understand the code it generates, I said last time that it was good enough to start replacing interns, I think at this point it's ready to start replacing junior programming positions.

  • Ah, so the technological singularity is here but it's in the opposite direction from what was expected as the technology takes over its own enshitification in an ever-accelerating manner.

I gotta wonder where do we go from here?

  • Personally, the more interested in something I am, the harder it will be to get me a related gift I'll be happy about. I've probably already got the more obvious stuff, and decent versions of them that I put a lot of thought into selecting.

That's why I personally try to avoid interests and give gifts that are generally useful but less obvious. Things that people might have on a mental "that would be nice to have but I can't be bothered right now" list.

  • Yeah, the accurate 4th panel would show the guy seizing on the ground.

  • With this particular brand, I don't care where they are made, I'm not touching them.

  • Look for the corner that goes on the top part of the matress and use that as the corner and treat the extra bit with the elastic like frilly trim to ignore. It's not perfect but I've been able to consistently get something that resembles a rectangle out of it instead of a ball.

  • CIA- "Why would we sus--oh right! Yes, of course we suspect you, since we have no idea what happened, that means you're probably on the top of the suspect list. I mean, you definitely are, just one sec let me grab the suspect list.... Yep, there you are, suspect number one, KGB! We'll be in touch if we have any questions."

KGB- "Would you like us to send you our evidence to help prove our innocence? We were watching, of course."

CIA- "You have evidence? What kind of evidence? Yeah, please send it, all copies, if you can. Just how closely were you watching? You shouldn't be getting all into other people's privacy, you know!"
