  • Misread "Krita" for "Kdenlive", but to add to @Eldritch@piefed.world comment, Krita and Glaxnimate are VERY different beasts. And Krita's animation features concentrate on complex cell animation, where each fram is a painting. Glaxnimate, on the other hand is more for logos, line drawings and so on.

  • Because somebody had already made the app and we have just integrated it into KDE. Also, it can work as a standalone animation app and is used to animate stuff that have nothing to do with Kdenlive. Why would we want to cut it down to a plugin-like thing of Kdenlive?

  • That's why we are working Plasma Mobile. But it is far from ready for primetime unfortunately.

  • Hmmm.... I can only see it once...

  • I, for one, am not sure what your complaint is about. At least in the launch menu, whatever I type, the search serves up apps first, ready to be run then and there, which makes sense in that context, doesn't it?

  • Oh! No no! Don't get me wrong! I do not think Linux users are superior to Windows users, just that Linux as a platform is superior because it tends to respect users' more, protects their privacy, often people developing for Linux tend to think about how to make their software more useful (as opposed to just more profitable), which in turn leads to an overall better platform for users.

It is a superior (as in "better") choice for the people.

  • Why ironic? It should be clear by now that Linux is the superior system in nearly every way.

Budgie to use KDE Frameworks in the upcoming versions of their desktop

    buddiesofbudgie.org /blog/state-of-the-budgie-2025
  • 🏅 For best joke in thread 🙄

  • Correct, to our chagrin. But it is there. KDE developers actually worked on it and implemented it. See the linked video. It is only a few minutes long.

  • We'll raffle one off at the next Akademy!

[Ed.: No we won't. We aren't even allowed legally to do that. But maybe come to Akademy anyway.]

  • Most, likely 95+% of users will never even realise. Hell, they didn't realise when we switched them over to Wayland by default in Plasma 6. Even less so now with NVIDIA at last getting their act together, and devs having spent many human-hours in figuring out support for graphic tablets and so on. And even less a year from now when we have full feature-parity with X11.

You may be underestimating the competency and speed of KDE devs. These people are the effing top.

Will there be people who still need X11 a year+ from now? Maybe, it will be for really niche reasons though: very specific hardware (most most common tablets and drawing pads are already supported) or really old legacy software their company requires them to use.

Either way, there will be compatibility layers, distros and maybe even forks of Plasma with X11 support, so this is all a non-issue.

  • 5 more apps added to the list of adoptable apps:

    • Spectacle is Plasma's inbuilt screen capture app. It can snap pics, record videos, edit them, and will son be able to extract text from captured images.
    • KMahJongg is a classic patience game where you have to match pairs of Mah Jongg pieces and clear the board.
    • Partition Manager is a fundamental piece of kit that allows you to edit, remove, create and in general manage partition on all connected storage devices.
    • ISO Image Writer, likewise, takes the guesswork out of creating bootable USB drives for testing or installing new operating systems.
    • Kleopatra manages all your digital certificates, signatures and cryptographic keys for your email, messages, and everything else.
