The harder to obtain materials aspect, while long term relevant, is barely a factor right now. Lithium production has exploded and resulted in a massive drop in prices that's making the main consumer appeal for sodium batteries, price, a non-factor and driving some sodium battery producers out of business
See, this is a cute IDEA I see around lemmy a lot, but a number of cars will see issues related to this. For example, subaru has some vehicles that will kill their own batteries trying to connect, and failing, to services that no longer exist, even while parked. Cutting your connection will prompt the same issue.
Is that terrible design? Yes. But it's also the design used for cars made to spy on you and stop working when they can't spy on you, that don't mind forcing you to buy a new car if you disable their spying capabilities.
It's not like MIT and the Harvard business review have published studies that have shown that AI is actually best suited to replacing executives and management in order to flatten organizations. But unfortunately, management and executives make the decisions on who AI replaces, and they don't want to be replaced. Hell at the company I'm at right now they've been axing low level workers and bringing on or promoting the ladder climbers (read: AI sycophants who do the least work) to manager or department head roles, saying that us grunts can "10x" to fill the gaps, and that all we need is good and creative leadership to direct our AI use. I could go off on things this business is doing to shoot itself in the foot for hours, even without mentioning AI
This. And chromebooks are glorified tablets. Much less capable than a proper laptop, much less for a child to learn than a proper laptop. Google did MASSIVE pushing to get chromebooks into the classroom to get kids hooked on their platform as early as possible
Read the article. Persona was the third party service. Even so, I'm skeptical given that discord told us DAYS ago that everything would remain on your local device in a blatant lie.
What do you mean all data was deleted? They've been doing age checks off client through a third party service. Are they checking every drive in the world for the data?
Is this a thing? Because what comes to mind for me is "the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent," which just happens sometimes
Oh yeah. Very correct. They're actively trying. I'm aware of some taco bells that have implemented AI ordering, but, as you said, people fucking hate it, and AI struggles with orders like "I'll have 14,000 free waters" and then the system crashes for several minutes. People I know have consistently gotten meals comped because it's failed in one way or another, so they're abandoning it, for now
So, the scam here is from ad providers like google on anyone running ads. It's the reason that often you see ads for a product you just looked at forever: if you are shown an ad for a product, and then you buy that product, the ad provider gets a cut. If you click on the ad, that cut is higher. Now, clearly you already looked at the product without the ad, and at best it was a reminder of something you already wanted, but in the eyes of the contract, you bought that product because of the ad. That's WAY more of a sure thing than actually compiling a meaningful profile on the provider side. Now, on the opposite end, you DO have stories of storefronts sending out coupons, emails, direct to consumer ads, built on your viewing history on their site that ARE based on complex algorithms that know you better than yourself, which is how you get stories of the algorithm knowing people are pregnant before they do
Idk these are flatly not comparable situations. A high speed chase ending in a pit maneuver is EXTREMELY dangerous before, during, after, and even around without being touched. A streetcar pushing a parked vehicle a handful of feet at low speed while ringing a warning bell with a driver keeping an eye on the situation is MUCH safer.
Stateside the big one I know is the Minneapolis greenway, which is a proper road reserved just for bikes and occasional buses. There are a handful of rails to trails projects all over, but I don't think they're quite what you have in mind
I once gave 40k, the tabletop a try. Their smaller skirmish version, killteam, I think. I had like 5 guys and turn one, one of them exploded himself, damaging the rest.
It's possible I misunderstood the rules, but the way we played was a better story. I lost, of course.
Ugh I was so happy when they first announced "denuvo is being removed from RE4," because that's a sane business decision that capcom has made in the past. Studies have shown that drm only makes a meaningful difference within... I've forgotten but I want to say it's like the first year of release, after which time not only has the game probably been cracked anyway, but also the game has already likely seen the bulk of it's sales. Adding NEW drm doesn't make any goddamn sense this late into the lifespan for a single player game. It's extra expense and also providing a second, alternative drm that might be easier to crack if the first wasn't already
