  • Unless your car is traveling faster than the speed of light, radar will detect objects in front of it. But yeah, I was trying to imply that for a complex system like self driving musk is a buffoon for relying on a single system instead of creating a more robust package of sensors.

  • I remember reading that tesla only uses cameras for it's self driving. My 2018 Honda uses radar for the adaptive cruise so the technology exists, musk is just an idiot.

  • The problem with gog, is that it's owned by CD project red...and they are publicly traded

  • I'm running popOS! With an geForce 3080 and so far it seems to be working. Ymmv

  • I suppose it really depends on figuring out what consciousness really is.

If we're talking about pure digital information then nothing is actually moved, it's just copied and written to a new location. From the perspective of the new mind, continuity would be preserved and it would think it had simply changed places. The old mind (if it survives the scanning/transfer process) would still be outside the simulation and see a new copy of itself in there.

On the other hand, if consciousness is some kind of understandable phenomena, with even more sci-fi tech we might be able to simply scoop it out and put it somewhere else. In that case it would be the same person.

  • The absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence.

But realistically, and specifically OPs scenario, it doesn't matter because there's literally nothing you can do about it except try to be better than you were yesterday.

  • This is the first time I've heard the second part of that joke lol

  • I don't really care for screen rant. TLDR: He didn't want a promotion because he wanted to keep flying and he's immature.

I can sort of see wanting to keep flying, but you'll never convince me none of th senior officers he lived with for 7 years wouldn't have mentored and pushed him to be a great officer.

  • I would die of dehydration after that, that's how hard I would avoid water.

  • Voyager was an experimental warship with an entirely holographic crew and a single human engineer to monitor things.

  • This could absolutely be used to keep prisoners in prison, and also probably criminalize gay men.

  • He did it twice

  • Do they stop letting you watch the show if you get it wrong? What purpose does this serve other than pissing people off

  • I watched a 4 hour essay about the star wars Disney hotel...also I think there was a 3 hour one about how awful star trek Picard was.

  • Yeah I'm thinking bout trying something new because Nvidia just put out new drives to fix a security issue but mint hasn't seemed to update the driver manager.

  • Year of the linux desktop! Problem is reliance on the Microsoft ecosystem though, and the government also runs on PDFs

  • I rember hearing this song on the Dr Demento show when I was growing up.

  • That's a fair point, linux has gotten a lot better with stuff 'just working' but when it doesn't, it requires some research and tinkering.

I was figuring something out the other day and it dawned on me that the reason I've become so enamored with linux is that it's a hit of nostalgia from getting things working in the 90s. (Also I'm a nerd and I think the way computers work is fascinating lol)

  • I remember watching a youtube video about what i think was a large land train built by Russia that was a portable nuclear power station.
