  • My strategy about that is to avoid putting all my eggs on the same basket :

    • Not using proton pass while bitwarden works like a charm
    • Sticking to a custom domain for my mail address to ease a future migration
  • According to a wikipedia search that I could cross reference more, Proton AG is 500 employees and Alphabet is 190k (380 times Proton).

What is your definition of big tech? I was only including huge monopolistic monoliths, are they "huge tech"?

  • Of course you can live with cash and relying on relatives when you really can find another solution. But this kind of intimidation on a judge is absolutely fucked up. (Right now it seems it is just a Monday in the USA, but in Europe we are not there yet)

  • I read an article yesterday that explains that it's still a bit hard :

    • he can't use his bank account in most foreign countries
    • he can't use most online marketplaces (non american ones may use american databases), plus they probably make you checkout through Visa
    • he says he can't have any credit card, this surprises me because I thought France had its own network "CB", but I guess one card must interface with several systems (Visa, Mastercard, CB usually?)

    (French and paywalled, sorry) https://www.lemonde.fr/international/article/2025/11/19/nicolas-guillou-juge-francais-de-la-cpi-sanctionne-par-les-etats-unis-face-aux-attaques-les-magistrats-de-la-cour-tiendront_6654016_3210.html?search-type=classic&ise_click_rank=6

  • Oh thanks, that was indeed not clear to me 👍🏼

  • About France ...

According to fightchatcontrol.eu a majority of our MEPs have expressed against the law : from far right to far left. ALL of the others are left as "unknown".

I think it's fair to assume that France is against this law but that our current political mess prevents an official or coordinated response.

I think this is a very important point : I see a lot of hate against our MEPs because fightchatcontrol.eu does not reflect their actual position on this issue.

I'd advise to at least switch France to "undecided" and add a bit of context 🤷

  • There is zero malware or spyware on the F-Droid store

That is a bold claim considering that :

    1. Proving that something does not exist is very hard
    2. F-droid allows you to rely on third party repositories (and makes it easy)

Although Google have to be mad lads if they actually think people are not responsible of what they install after having to enable developer options, accepting 2 popups and eventually adding a custom repository to F-droid.

  • To what others say (not many people use custom ROMs) I'll add that using f-droid on a Googled ROM is often the first foot into the ecosystem, that might confort people into commiting to a custom ROM.

  • If you need advanced modifications, Inkscape is surprisingly capable!

  • I've never seen a vegan menu, only vegan items mixed up in the regular menu. Is this a US thing?

  • If f-droid doesn't expect to survive I think the whole stack /e/OS relies on might eventually collapse (microg, lineage, ...).

  • To be fair, I don't think Xitter is really dead? It certainly took a hit though 🤷

  • We're at an insane level of stupid. I had to buy a new smartphone in an emergency yesterday, and the onboarding runs as follows :

    1. "What browser do you want to use?" Firefox
    2. "What search engine do you want to use? (Non skipable)" Ecosia

This results in installing two separate apps : Firefox and Ecosia

  • I think it's the same deal as search engines : people have been made too unaware of what is on their devices. Every service needs its own app or people will just not dare to "tinker".

  • Same ! About the difficulty, it perfectly reproduces my initial Hollow Knight experience, which was my first ever metroivania so I was always lost and struggling against early bosses.

  • I bought a second hand surface pro 7 recently and I'm quite in love with it! With a few GNOME plugins it's a quite capable tablet AND a quite capable laptop on the go.

  • Linux phones are moving fast but it feels like Android is moving faster on the other direction 😥

(Yes I know Android is built over Linux, I mean more traditional and open distros like postmarketos)

  • Sourced facts nonetheless

  • Achtuallyyy, the sound is usually "miaou", but we do call them minou and I agree it's super cute :3

  • pics @lemmy.world

Spent the week in Brittany, France and my best picture is somehow from a random cat 😅

  • swaywm @lemmy.ml

Anyone knows how to remove this top border border from Firefox 121+?
