  • I want politics in my feed, though, just specifically not these two doing nothing! I have no idea how a filter like that would even be implemented (other than people just not posting them, lol) but I mean mahgawd.

Like, I thought about trying to filter out certain bluster-y keywords like "threatens, blasts, tweets, on X" but there are a lot of situations where even a statement can have consequences. I wanna know when minorities get blamed for insane bullshit again, or when nuclear war gets threatened again, or when someone is calling for peace talks again. Tariffs getting delayed for the 80th time is still gonna affect how things are getting priced.

But this nonsense where Trump say Musk bad, Musk say Trump bad, while neither of them have taken any actions against each other? No funding cuts to Musk companies, no investigations, no arrests. No specific opposition candidates being funded (if this even happens it'll still be a Republican), no DOGE backpedaling, no changes to Twitter, no re-banning Trump. just fucking god why who the fuck cares about any of the shit theyve said about each other over the last, what? 3 weeks???

  • ... it continues to be all bluster. I swear we're gonna get reports on the absolute nothing stories of these two talking shit until the end of time. God I wish I could somehow filter out these posts until something actually happens

  • discouraging people from calling help when they need it

This is literally why they're doing it. Government makes simply existing illegal for a huge class of workers so companies abuse them as much as they want while they're too scared to call for help, no matter how bad it gets. Bonus points if the general population hates them too so even publicity doesn't matter. (Hey, totally unrelated, isn't it great how convicts are so heavily vilified for life?) I know the phrase is way overused, but The Cruelty Is The Point isn't (only) about how psycho some of these people are, it points to how they'll do anything for money.

In the end, though, this a great way for gangs gain power. People aren't going to stop calling for help, they're going to stop calling the police for help. I guess the party of law and order would love a good crime wave.

  • I mean, it's New York. Pretty much all cities are left leaning, especially in the context of how far right US politics have gotten, but New York in particular has a strong movement. I mean, they gave us AOC, too. I'm not sure if even LA with all these protests is going to have a legacy that strong, though Mamdani isn't the mayor yet.

But for the politicians competing for gerrymandered districts where the mass of rural, Fox-watching morons control the outcome (aka most of them), opposing the genocide is still a tough sell. Just being not-a-Republican is basically a death knell for any of those campaigns.

  • There it is. When Russia does it, it's helping, but when Western countries do it, it's colonialism. God I hope you're at least being well paid for your doublethink

  • For sure, but the argument being made here isn't that Medvedev is speaking truth, but that he can be referred to with "Russia says." Which, yeah, he's a mouthpiece for the Russian government, so that checks out, accuracy of the statement notwithstanding.

  • And nooticing is nooice

  • He won't even need to bother, we're gonna contaminate everything thoroughly enough to last at least the next 10,000 years

  • Maybe it has something to do with also needing international support in order to defend itself from its neighbor... talk all the shit you want about the US's stance on Israel, but shifting that to Taiwan is on par with claiming Ukraine deserved to get invaded.

Which I now realize is probably your next line. Anyway, oh well

  • This is kinda where I'm at. So far it's been a lot of hot air, like always, but no one's been arrested or had their subsidies cut yet.

I made a comment less than a day before the current drama saying all they ever do is talk shit, so hopefully now that I'm posting this they'll have a real falling out

  • Well, of course the real answer is that calling it fraud is simply how they justify the transfer of wealth to already obscenely rich people. But as for how the propaganda works, it ties into how they don't believe in due process. Right now it's most visible in how they're kidnapping people, but it also extends to fraud. They claim fraud, no prosecution happens because ThE CouRtS ArE cORrUPt, and so they get to go outside the law and do things like cut already allocated Medicaid funds without losing support.

  • this isn't a falling out. i swear there's been an article once a week since january pretending This Is IT between the richest man in the world and one of the most corrupt, but turns out, they have a lot to offer each other. they're talking a bunch of bullshit like they always do and news outlets are reporting their meaningless words uncritically like they always do.

wake me up when spacex loses funding.

  • It can be if you run the campaign right

  • You're not an asshole for going faster, you're an asshole for tailgating

  • And that's the punchline

  • The art is awful and the jokes are either literal nonsense or annoyingly simple. Same kinda stuff being said in this thread. Same reasons anyone dislikes a comic. Just doesn't resonate. I can't say why people decide some stupid shit works for them and other stupid shit doesn't.

  • I'm not even sure this counts as drama. These people are addicted to wallowing in negativity. Gives me r/questionablecontent vibes, a subreddit about a webcomic where people purport to hate it but continue reading it every day just so they can get mad about it.

Like, I strongly dislike the Far Side, but despite how frequently it gets upvoted I don't go into every comment section to talk about why. I just blocked the sub and scroll past it when it shows up in other subs. The behavior in these threads is pathetic.
