have you tried something to focus before starting a task?
I like a small bit of a not very addicting game before I start something, so I can get in the zone, and assess where my head is.
Just an easy sudoku or bejeweled- something you can knock out in under a minute. I started doing this around 14ish and it helped with school a lot.
If they’re younger, you being there to keep them on track is important, but asking them to assess how they feel based on that little game could be a great self assessment tool.

Just to let you know, the whole thing where you look back on every little thing you do and cringe won’t magically go away when you’re an adult.
That’s a self-esteem thing, not a teenager thing.
I guess what I’m saying is that this is one of those things that can get better, but won’t just magically get better on its own. It didn’t get better for me until I got some control in my physical health (stuff that would affect my perspective) and took agency in my mental health.
If you’re in the situation to do so, check out what kind of therapy resources are available to you. You can just try a bunch until you find one that really clicks, and a lot offer free brief consultations.
Many employers offer 4-10 free visits for any immediate family members/offspring, too!
I’m sorry you feel so critical of yourself all the time. Its so draining to live like that.
I started using two so I could more easily remote game with my sibling.
The second one would have their screen stream up, so it was like we were playing split screen co-op back in the day. :)

I mean more in the broad sense- to hope that there’s going to be any action at all towards something one personally likes.
My standards are pretty low I guess.
Its a vague undulation in a direction I think most folks here would probably prefer?
That’s kinda all you can realistically hope for a lot of the time
I’ve been trying to set up a space for this split keyboard/Accessability computer stuff, and I have, like, five ~50gb hard drives from yeeears ago. ( I was the designated data backer-upper of the friend/family circle)
I could see how things could get out of hand for the true memelord
How do you cleanly cut boards? I have some old RAM sticks that are pretty small by today’s standards and I’d kinda like to make earrings with them one day
Nah, I just wear what looks cool, no matter what.
Yes, I will wear the Vault Suit through entire Fallout games, because its canon AF. I just got good at ice physics because the Hover Boots looked rad.
And I’ve gone an entire game with the head slot empty in one game that, for some reason, didn’t let you unequip helmets, and the character had cool hair.
Also got a legendary drop with perpetual Dash speed. Probably the most unique individual character for that random iOS game ever.
But you’re supposed to ask what its desires are. We gotta know if this is AM “Torture humans for Eternity” or Glitchy GLaDOS “Make cake” kinda stuff
Offered an ear to a stranger who got a cancer diagnosis. Enabled a notification override for that discord convo so if they ever take me up on that, I’ll get it.
It sounds like its something treatable, as they were talking about working while dealing with it, but still, that’s stressful AF. Cancer is scary.
This isn’t much, but its the latest. Kinda feels nice to realize I did a nice thing even though I’m broke and physically struggling with stuff right now, so thanks.
I think that’ll help me get back to sleep here, actually.
Part of the reason they get so high up on nerd sites (And Reddit at least started as a nerd site) is that they hunger for power, and the right people are too shy to seek power themselves.
This would all be greatly relieved if communities asked for communities to nominate other members, and asked for the type of folks who are the types who would mostly only consider the position of asked/ or if they were write-ins.
People with the capacity but are looked over because they maybe lack the ego or self confidence to take such power.
This works especially well in smaller communities under 4K users or so, which kinda falls apart in our Big Internet world, sadly…
