  • It took me a week and a half of absolute nonsense in order to pick it up.

They kept claiming to have attempted a delivery when I'd receive no calls from the buzzer, to which I then requested to pick it up at the nearest UPS store, which they told me they didn't do package pick up at (they do, I walk by it all the time and have seen people leave with packages and have picked one up there since), to which I then started waiting a quarter of my day waiting outside my building waiting for the truck, which wouldn't show up and still claim delivery attempts, and on the last day before they were to return it to sender, I requested pick up at the "only" place to do so at the airport (which is an added cost???), and spent two hours on transit only for them to tell me they don't take cash.

It was a miracle I got the phone at all because person behind me offered to pay the fees for me on her card if I gave her the cash. Even putting aside the added pickup fee, I think the cost to pick up the phone at all was around a hundred because of UPS' "luxury goods" fee, which Murena at no point informed me of upon purchase, so if I didn't have the spare funds from my tax return, it would've been sent back regardless. I'd also have to pay that fee again getting the new phone.

  • Right, cause it's perfectly acceptable to stretch my eyes at an Asian-American if they vote against their own interests.

At least that's what I gather if I apply this same logic towards other minority groups, right?

  • This is such a cheap cop-out, and says more than you think it does about how much you tolerate bigotry.

    I'll make my way.

  • Okay, so let's take that same logic and apply it elsewhere.

Kanye West is an out and proud nazi. Do I have the right then to call him the hard r because I disagree with him?

  • Deadnaming a trans person is equivalent to telling them they are not who they say they are. If you deadname a trans woman as some sorta "gotcha" because they disagree with you, even if their rhetoric and actions harm the very community they're a part of, that's not far off from being the type to say "YWNBAW".

Their name is inherently connected to their identity. It's one thing to call Caitlyn some smarmy Trump-esque name like "kookie Caitlyn", or some other feminine name that isn't hers to mock her like "Candace" or "Karen", but in using her birth name/deadname, you are basically telling a trans person that their identity as their gender is invalid, and that they are only seen as the gender they identify with when they agree with you.

Instead of saying "you will never be a woman", it says "you are only a woman when I feel like you deserve to be one".

  • So what you're saying is that basic human rights are conditional?

I can disagree with Caitlyn Jenner for taking the side of people actively campaigning against the trans community while also acknowledging that she deserves to be called the name she identifies with.

What message does this send to trans people? It says that their bare basics rights are conditional based on what they believe. A trans man can watch and follow the values of Andrew Tate, and with that fact I can call his values gross while also affording him basic human rights in addressing him by his name and using his correct pronouns. These are non-negotiable, and acting like they are plays into right-wing narratives both about trans people, and those who are left-wing.

  • Used to watch every video of his, but I watch him more sporadically now since his awkward tweet where he said it was alright to deadname Caitlyn Jenner because of her politics.

Him leaving the tweet up doesn't bother me considering that he's stated he leaves all of them up for transparency even if he no longer agrees with them, but what does annoy me is how he's never gone back to correct himself. I know he's not an outright transphobe, but that still doesn't sit right with me.

  • I bought the Murena One since it was the cheapest model that was close to the specs of my phone at the time. Figured $500 was already overpaying considering how much lower cost my previous phone was, but also, who the hell thinks about a $500 phone bricking in a month? I just find it inexcusable regardless.

I remember wanting to get the removable battery, but they didn't offer that with the One, and I'd be losing specs if I got a model in my budget that did have one. I also wasn't going to spend over a grand for a phone with the Fairphone models available through them at the time.

  • I spent $500 on a Murena only for the thing to brick a month later because the cord or whatever connecting the rechargable battery to the rest of the phone somehow split off. Would've been open to shipping the thing back to them for a repair/replacement since a local shop was unable to do so, but they use UPS for shipping and there was no way in hell I was going to deal with the absolute mess it was to receive the phone to begin with a second time.

  • When Greyhound pulled out of the Canadian market, I was shocked the government didn't step in to create their own equivalent.

Progressive politicians are losing rural and small-town voters because they don't have their issues front and centre. How the hell is a small town supposed to survive when people without access to a personal vehicle can't get there? These towns need workers, and having a means for people to go from town to town for work with relative ease without a car helps big time.

  • Good. What this should do is also invigorate our economy and have us explore alternatives that we can produce here. Even before this nonsense I was worried about our heavy dependence on the U.S., but here we are now with it punching us in the gut.

Federal government should really give funding boosts to greenhouse farms right about now so that we can grow more stuff here out of season and not import from say, California all the time.

  • Why do we continue to pretend that India is an ally? Nothing against the people that come here from there of course, but we sure as hell have a weirdly comfortable relationship with a country that has no issues in assassinating people on our soil.

  • It's not federated by any means, but if you want to replace FANDOM wikis with other equivalents, Indie Wiki Buddy is a great extension to have on hand.

    https://getindie.wiki/

There's options to remove FANDOM from search results in favour of other options, and they also allow you to redirect to the Breezewiki frontend for FANDOM to get rid of all those shitty ads and UI, which is legal considering the contents of FANDOM pages are still under the Commons.

  • Thanks, might explore that as an option.

  • Thanks! Appreciate it.

  • Thanks! Much appreciated.

  • Quite the opposite actually, apparently the authour was classmates with Julia Child.

The yield is 4-6 servings. Wish I could do more to give an approximation, but I gave the full recipe to another comment if that at all helps.

  • Recipe is really short, so here's pretty much the full thing:

    Sauerkraut Soup Russian-Style

3 to 4 tablespoons butter (am substituting with margarine)1 onion, sliced2 small carrots, sliced1 potato, peeled, sliced2 tablespoons flour1 teaspoon tomato puree3/4 pound sauerkraut4 to 5 cups Basic Beef Stock (references other recipe in book, substituting with premade vegetable broth)1 tablespoon chopped parsley (substituting with half the amount in dried parsley)1 teaspoon chopped chervil (might omit or replace with half amount herbes de provence since store doesn't sell)Sour cream

Melt butter; cook onion and carrots until golden. Add potato. Stir in flour; when smooth, add tomato puree and sauerkraut. Cook a few minutes; stir constantly. Add stock and herbs; bring to boil. Simmer about 40 minutes; season to taste. Serve hot with sour cream in each soup cup. Yield 4 to 6 servings.
