  • I agree. To clarify, I'm just saying that you can't use yiur ideology as the litmus test to deem whether a piece of media is worthy of your enjoyment. Well, you can, but youre probably not gonna be able to enjoy much, especially if you're a Marxist living in the West.

A more pragmatic perspective is to just enjoy things and also find joy in the opportunity to sharpen your lens.

  • Right. If people are putting all of their media through an ideological purity blender, theyre gonna have a bad time enjoying anything in this day and age. Instead of using a Marxist lens to be a hater, we can try to find joy in our analyses of the art we engage with.

  • It's dumb that salons gender haircuts to indicate length. My stylist's salon does this too. I signed up for male haircuts for months. However, they eventually told me to sign up for woman's cuts so that they could better organize their time, so that's what I do now. They charge me the male price still, which is cheaper.

I would just keep signing up for male cuts until they tell you otherwise.

  • The Boycat app has been very helpful for questions like this.

  • For real though, as a gig worker in the US who is trying their damndest to pay off debt and save for retirement so that I have a marginally less chance of being homeless and bankrupt when I'm a senior citizen, is an IRA still a recommended move? How are other comrades investing for old age or is the plan just for us all to work crushing jobs until our bones give out and then we die?

How tf is anyone supposed to plan for this hellscape of a future?

  • Reminder that Russia tried to join NATO in the late 90s (under Putin as a PM too). Russia is currently an anti-imperialist power because of circumstance, not out of principle.

  • Not only that. Companies are now charging people extra for using cards, passing on their processing fees to consumers.

  • The zionists funneled the residents of Gaza at the Egyptian border, telling them that's where they were allowed to escape.

    Then they bombed it.

The world is literally watching a holocaust happen. Not just reading about it like in the 40s. But watching it. And liberals are either ignoring it or standing with the ones perpetrating it.

Not a single person who stands with Israel should be allowed to forget what they supported.

  • Nice try, fed

  • Russia literally tried lmao.

Liberals and being historically illiterate. Name a more common duo.

  • Fascism requires an enemy.

  • Like anything else, gender and sexual rights in other countries must be struggled for and established on those country's terms. It's unfortunate that the global communist movement is divided on this issue still, but so are capitalist countries. Baggage from colonialism, reaction in response to imperialist countries using sexual rights as a front for regime change efforts, the fetishization and commodification of sexuality and gender in capitalist countries, etc. all have something to do with it.

This is why liberal lgbtq movements actively harm the struggle for true queer liberation. Solidarity, comrade.

  • Maoists do make compelling points. As communists we should be considering the Maoist point of view without shit-slinging and we should consider criticisms to be in good faith.

The obstacle for me is that Maoist organizing has only gotten weaker support from the masses since the 90s and there has not been any successful projects. From an analysis of theory standpoint, I often find them spot on in many of their observations. The global communist movement is a lot weaker than we (in the West at least) would like to admit. China may be making advances for China and helping to weaken Western imperialism's hold on the world, which we all obviously applaud, but there's no concrete evidence to suggest that they will be leading the global communist movement from a place of ideology anytime soon.

We are in a period of retreat and concession to the bourgeoisie still. Are there encouraging signs for the future? Sure. But we've got a long way to go. It's no surprise that there are some overwhelming obstacles for M-L parties in the world that have nerfed the revolutionary energy. But communists are still in the position of gaining support among the masses and you can't force the revolution without a truly revolutionary situation, especially after 30+ years of unimpeded neoliberalism. Perfect theory is never perfect in practice, and Maoism from Peru and the RIM is proof of this. Meanwhile, the general strike happening in India is a result of the M-L party organizing workers, not the Maoist party. We're really only just getting started. We can't let our desperate hopes put the cart before the horse.

Sorry if this comment wasn't the most clear or connected. I'm just kind of spitballing what's coming to mind. I personally thought it was a good article. Thanks for sharing.
