2 Kings 2:23-24: A story about what happens when you make fun of bald dudes

Proud to be a defender of the faith.

  • It's been a while since I tried it, so I don't recall exactly what didn't work the last time. I think it may have been driver related.

I'm definitely going to give it another go one of these days.

  • I have never gotten Clonezilla to work. I don't want to call it obsolete, but... it certainly isn't intuitive, and in 2024 I expect even open source software as widely known as Clonezilla to have a straightforward interface.

For simple data backups, I use Kopia.

EDIT: Apparently there's a GUI for Clonezilla called Rescuezilla. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

  • I think this is what I had in mind when I said I would consider shorting RDDT. Gonna watch and see what happens with the IPO first, though.

  • Do you have retirement savings? Welcome to the investor class.

  • I've never shorted stock before, but I'm really tempted to start now. RDDT will become the inverse meme stock.

  • I wonder how bad the reputational damage all these layoffs is? I wouldn't be surprised if those big tech companies have a bit of trouble when they start hiring again.

  • To be honest, it just sounds like you have an unnecessary chip on your shoulder.

  • Sounds like a bit of a desperate reach to attach the EEE label to this.

  • > Set-Alias -Name Get-Ass -Value Get-Access> Get-AssGet-Access : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x00000000 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

  • I mean, two whole generations are growing up without using regular computers until they enter the workforce or go to college. When I was in highschool, I was told that the generations after me would mostly be more technologically literate than anyone was at the time, but with smartphones and ChromeOS it seems that the time to learn how to use a personal computer now begins far later than it was for us millennials.

There are so many basic things about using a computer that it is no longer to expect a high school graduate to know, such as how to use a printer (or what a printer even is), how to reboot a computer, what a browser is, etc.

  • The first time, it was an interesting discussion. Now, it's just spam.

  • Absolutely right. And it blows my mind that at this point people are getting less technologically literate, not more. Job security for us IT guys, I guess.

  • People making OS their religion and following one of the Penguin Creeds:

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, installing Linux in the name of Torvalds, Stallman, and the Holy Kernel: Teaching them to use only FOSS software. Amen.

  • What’s rm -rf /?

Just` test it in a terminal, it’s fun.

    💀

  • shared XKCD about experts overestimating laypeople's knowledge of their field

Double clicking it opens a weird folder.I just put the ISO on my external drive and now my backup is gone what happened?

Proceeds to assume laypeople have backups

  • The only thing that I've seen is Framework's customer service is unbelievably fantastic--until it's not. They had some deceptive marketing on their SSD modules, which they marketed as being useful for booting an OS on, but then later said on their forums that they weren't designed to be used that way.

The average customer won't have any issues, but every once in a while a customer reports feeling burned because they had persistent issues that Framework was unable to solve. After RMAing a number of times their support tells you to pound sand.

  • If you drop it and break the frame you can easily replace it.

  • Another thing the world ought to know is that the folks who are identified by “red” and “right” in America are in the minority.

    Significantly so.

This isn't accurate. In 2020, 29% of voters identified as Republican, 33% as Democrat, and 34% as independent. There certainly were more Democrats, but only by a 5% margin.

Playing up exaggerated differences between the number of Democrats and Republicans and emphasizing the "we outnumber you" rhetoric is extremist and should be avoided. It makes you a part of the problem.
