There's so many things other than voting to do between being idle and storming the palace, here's a few simple ideas that don't take much effort and don't require you to invest your life into activism, they're a bunch of examples not an exhaustive list or a checklist:

Join or support an union
Show up at local protests if you can
Take part in boycotting a few things that belong to people or countries or orgs that are doing bad shit
Speak up, everyday pushback against reactionary speech by coworkers/family/etc. matters
Join local activist groups through social media to check once in a while what they need and see if you can lend a hand
Most importantly, don't sneer at people who are trying to do something: cynicism pulls people down, it is a net negative

Martin Niemöller wrote First They Came… as a cautionary tale. If you choose to ignore it and come up with excuses for being a doomer, then you might end up decades from now being the one who writes your own version of First They Came…

The very minimum contribution you could do would be to not try to spread that mood to others. It'd be a nice start.

When I report problematic takes over there, they get server banned. That's why I put !smugideologyman@lemmy.dbzer0.com over there, it's the only "major" explicitly leftist server I trust by experience will ban tankies and nazis.

Here's a recent example of how the local userbase reacts to a tankie meme in their third most active community (compared to the same meme getting a positive score on lemmy.ml). Thanks for the gaslighting attempt about a server I actually use on the regular + instant downvotes on my comments though, pretty cool way to hold a conversation.

They do indeed have AI apologists, btw. I simply don't interact with their communities.
