Yeah, that's a weird thing to make a press release about. Who tells the press that they were asked if they have a secret family? And why is the weird part, according to him, of this that he was asked with his wife present? I think the weirdest part of all this is that they thought that was weird. But actually, this whole thing is weird. Something about this is off. Weird af 😬
Honest question: Why does it matter if he's a transphobe when choosing which Fediverse software to use? The software is FOSS and anyone can make their own instance. I don't understand why his social views outside of sharing the software and protecting it from becoming proprietary matters when deciding what Fediverse software to use.
I'm not arguing my stance. I really want to understand what I might be missing.
I find it cute when someone speaking Spanish says "buenas noches" as a farewell. It seems like they're saying "hello" while waving bye. It's obvious that they learned Spanish as a second language. But Spanish as a 2nd language is almost universally seen as endearing by Hispanophones, not like some people in the US see people that view English as a 2nd language as insufficient, lesser, or rude.
Edit: Apparently, I am mistaken. Buenas noches can be used as a farewell. Maybe there are differences due to dialect.
Here's a video on the topic that I found useful. It's an interview of a CIA operative explaining how conmen pick, prime, and use their prey. Fun fact: About 10% of the population lives in a world where everyone else is a tool to be manipulated using levers of reward and punishment. Once you see it, you can't go back.
As someone from the USA, spending enough time in Cuba taught me to not walk unless I can see the ground right in front of me. I noticed once after a trip. I was at Home Depot with a friend. We were looking for an item, and when we would look at the aisle signs, I would stop walking while they kept going.
I guess maybe people are used to having perfect floors in certain environments, so they walk as if nothing could be there.
I understand trilateration, but what's "oracle trilateration"? How did these dating apps share the proximity distance of a user and to what precision? Like if it said the user is 5km away, that is still going to give a pretty big area if someone were to trilateral it because the line of the circle would have to include 4.5-5.5km away. Do that three times, and we'd get an area of about a square km. To get it down to 2m, the app would have to be precise to the meter, such as "user is 5,000m away".
I just ran a test on my stock Pixel 8 Pro connected via Proton VPN:
I opened Firefox and searched DuckDuckGo for "pool heater".
I scrolled down until I saw an Amazon link, then closed the tab and Firefox.
I opened the Amazon app. I scrolled through the "deals" on the app's home page and did not see anything pool related at all.
I typed "pool" into the search slowly, to see if and when "pool heater" was suggested as a search. I typed in "pool" entirely, yet "pool heater" was never suggested.
I don't know what that implies, but it seems like if I am using Firefox, DDG, and Proton VPN, Amazon isn't monitoring my Internet searches.
One of my awesome repeating jokes was to tell people my telephone number as one number. So say my number was (305) 558-9151, I'd give my number as three billion, fifty-five million, five hundred and eighty-nine thousand, one hundred and fifty-one. I made sooo many friends that way.
Why not just stay away from lemmy.ml then? You can start the same communities on another instance. It would be like me going to a Nazi instance and pointing out that they ban anyone that celebrates diversity. Like, yeah... that's what they do. It's in their ethos.
