  • Thank you for that, I had never heard of the Singapore agreement. They are going into very Machiavellian territory That is honestly very scary to me, or it reads that way if correct.

The Singapore Agreement, which is planned by the EU Commission, has so far received little public attention, but it promises to interfere with the rights of EU citizens.

The so-called DTA (Digital Trade Agreement) regulates the digital trade in goods and services. It is the first trade agreement of its kind and is intended to serve as a template for future agreements. It provides for a de facto sale of our data to Singapore and carries dangers. The data protection system in Singapore is less strict and EU data could be resold to third countries, for example to China.

I haven't read that yet, as it is 01:25am and I am two hours past my bedtime.

  • I think it is more likely that the people proposing it don't understand what it is that they are proposing. They don't seem to have a grasp of why privacy should be so protected and what they are proposing is way too much. It also seems to completely contradict what the EU were saying about 5 years ago, possibly less.

  • I'd say it may have a lot to do with that. Israel and the US have shown how powerful abusing peoples privacy can be. They have also shown how profitable.

  • That's one of my biggest gripes. The politicians voting on deciding this should remember that people will be watching and remembering every single tiny piece of dirt on them and it will be published. It's not a nice feeling. Phones could be stolen with private data on them, laptops etc. Horrible to have all of your personal data being taken.

I wonder if they no longer get elected, do they become the Plebeians, and would their devices automatically be scanned from then on.

Seems that if this goes through, the only way around it would be to run for government.

  • The thread title is the headline of the article. It's the reason it caught my eye (and many others). Despite using the word spam, it shows how effective the campaign has been. They mention that the site developer never paid to promote it. Which shows how many people are against it. Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard (would like to see his credentials) is the main supporter of this particular chat control, is moaning saying:

“This has nothing to do with 'Chat Control,' as the sponsors of the citizens’ initiative claim,”

So it's good on that level too, that he, and the eu council finally have to comment on it, as they were hoping to never actually address it and just push it through. It's also stated in the article

Ella Jakubowska, head of policy at digital rights group EDRi, said “This campaign seems to have raised the topic high up the agenda in member states where there was previously little to no public debate."

  • I don't think that anyone claimed it is somehow the saviour for then environment. There is a lot more to bitcoin than was possible to reply.

  • It makes me wonder how you came to your superior opinion when you won't even read a partial article. I use blockers so I didn't see any cookie popups etc. (firefox/chrome - Ghostery, privacy badger, ublock origin)

The honest and best answer that I can give is far too long for little old me to be typing out while trying to cover everything. Your vendor getting hacked - Never keep your bitcoin on the exchange.

Not your keys - not your crypto.

The problem you propose there happens today with banks and our identification being cloned. With EU Chat Control attempting to be passed, it has the potential to get 100 times worse for everyone.

I am not being smart, but you should read up on what Bitcoin (not crypto) solves and how it is more secure. There are a plethora of articles out there that don't require a lot of reading, that you could skim over.

Key points for most articles were you to search "what does bitcoin solve?"

    • The Bitcoin blockchain is decentralized, permissionless, and reliable.
    • Bitcoin increases access to basic financial services and facilitates cross-border payments.
    • The Bitcoin blockchain is open and transparent. Every transaction on the network can be traced.
    • Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, imposed a hard-capped supply of 21 million BTC, creating a provably-scarce asset.

Bitcoin is a far superior way to control your own finances. Transactions are more transparent helping to prevent corruption for one thing. As long as we let the banks control everything, we will never be able to fix most of the problems causing climate damage. If you are still intent on complaining that Bitcoin is evil, it is a necessary evil. It has unfortunately been adopted by the big companies at this stage so they will benefit immensely from it, but taking everything and the alternatives into account, it should actually help the environment in the long run.

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

Are there any alternatives to DriveDroid for non rooted phones?

  • Thanks, yeah I think I mislabeled instance. I thought instance was the term Lemmy used and Community was the term used in PieFed.

I'm thinking of something along the lines of an old style forum. Sub categories underneath the main forum heading.

Similar to something like this. https://piefed.social/topics

  • Thanks, yep I may may have mistitled communites over instances..

  • Regarding PieFed, I believe a community. Lemmy instances wouldn't really suit what I have in mind. But if I'm beong honest, I haven't given a lot of thought to which is called what.

Something like this is what I am thinking.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Is it possible to set up a PieFed or Mbin community out of the box, or do they require knowledge of coding?

  • Especially when they're scumbag terrorists with a penchant for xenophobia and racism.

  • I wonder what their motivation is. Just a good old change of heart, giving everyone a 2nd chance or possibly something else?

  • At least those kids got to come home from school. In Gaza they're blowing them up.

    And the hospitals.

To catch Hamas don't you know. Whom they allegedly know the exact spot that they're in at any given moment (otherwise why blow up the schools and hospitals?)

But have no idea where the hostages are except that they're not exactly where they're bombing at any given time.

Oh. And Israel's hostages aren't called hostages, so don't confuse them as such. They're called prisoners.
