  • And you are missing my point.

Downloading the music and transferring it to your phone can work automatically, you don't have to do it yourself. The manual way is what most people know, including yourself. But I never did anything but press on a button, and suddenly a song was on my computer and on my phone. One button press.

That's exactly the same as what Spotify does.

  • My life has no meaning, and I don't need it to for me to be happy.

The belief that you "need" something for your life to be happy may be preventing people from being happy.

  • Well but elephants don't spend all their time surviving. There's plenty of times where they are satisfied with food and water and have nothing to do but lay around or play with mud or whatever. Same with almost every other species.

It's just not necessary to search for any meaning. I personally don't, I don't think there is any to find. I'm perfectly happy to just try to fulfill whatever desires that come up in my mind. And there's simply no shortage of fun stuff to do. Also, almost everything can be fun if you want it to.

  • So they weren't terrified about what lurked beyond their campfire and could kill them at a moment's notice? Where an unsuccessful hunt, which definitely happened, could mean you go hungry or eventually starve? Where environmental changes could happen at any point, forcing you to wander hundreds of kilometers in search of new water, food sources?

I really don't think that our current psyche would be any happier when living in that environment.

It's pretty simple - lots of resources, happier - no resources, unhappier. We're living in an era of artificial scarcity. Of course if you currently have to wander the equivalent of hundreds of kilometers in search for new resources (work long hours at shitty jobs) you're gonna be unhappy. But that doesn't mean the ancient humans didn't live in environments where that was the case.

It depends on your situation, and that is pretty much the same. The question is how different the distribution is from earlier to now, that I do not know.

  • Most religious institutions are authoritarian by nature. So no surprise there.

  • No, sync can be automatic. There's no way to forget.

  • I was joking. I didn't think "transferring music to phone" is any problem at all, because I simply had a folder set up to sync. But it seemed like you needed Spotify to be super convenient and no alternative to be possible, so I just joked and didn't say anything about my real setup.

  • He literally figuratively just told you in this video that he isn't :D you should believe people when they tell you that

  • You can quite obviously hear him say that he's a terrible person for the job.

He's an entertainer, he needs to be popular with his audience, and thus he needs to disguise negative feedback with humor.

If he spoke plainly, he would have said to the guy wanting him to run for president "you barely know me, you just heard like 5 sentences you like and you're already wanting me for president. That's totally stupid, but it's understandable because these 5 sentences are already better than anything you heard from Trump. I'm not even a good candidate and you'd still take me just so you don't have to have Trump. So no, please actually try to elect someone that'd be good at the job, don't force me to do it who would suck. Look at what I'm doing now, I can't even plainly tell you what I think, my desire for approval is so high. Be happy that I only use my charm for random humoric nonsense, if I'd use my charm for personal gain I'd basically be Trump, he also was mainly an entertainer."

So yeah, while he doesn't answer it directly, he does his best of trying to answer it based on the constraints that his person is being placed under.

  • I still used my cassette player

  • I've always just had to type a songname into a box and have it 10 seconds later. So Spotify gave absolutely no advantage in access to music.

The only semi-relevant new thing Spotify had was music recommendations, but I never cared about that. I've never had trouble finding good music organically, nor even the need to listen to new songs all the time.

So yeah, for me, it never was more convenient than what I had before and I don't think I've missed anything.

  • Sure, let everyone fire up the translator engine instead of immediately understanding each other. Takes more effort, thus makes it harder to understand each other.

And we should really like more understanding, not less.

It really doesn't matter what the common language is, but it makes sense to have one, and we already have English now. We can also think to change that (there is Esperanto), but there's really no super major reason to do it, it's not like by using English we support the US or by using Dutch we now support the Netherlands. It's just a way of communicating, as long as we're able to do it easily, let's just do that.

Also, even though the UK exited the EU, it still lies in Europe. The language still originated in Europe. Ireland also uses English.

  • Hab da letztens mit ner Käuferin ca. 2h über den gekauften Artikel und andere Dinge geschwätzt. Auch sonst schon viel verkauft/verschenkt. Kann es definitiv empfehlen :D

  • That's ok

  • I didn't know nurses in the US get up to $160k per year with 120k being the norm. In Germany, the maximum is 48k€. I know it's not really comparable because of living costs and other factors but still, I didn't know it was literally 3 times as much.

  • They're saying it's not about money, but they want better working conditions.
