  • I want to clarify that I like spending time outside - while in California I spend at least an hour outdoors on most days. Having to be indoors all summer would be a real sacrifice.

  • That's not just similar to Minecraft - it's nearly identical. I'm not sure that the DMCA notice isn't justified. I don't know the law well enough to judge where the line between legal and illegal Minecraft clones is.

  • Well, to be fair, I think I would vote for a racist pro-choice candidate before I would vote for a pro-life candidate, so it makes sense that a pro-life voter would have similar priorities.

  • I like walking when I'm not in a hurry and the weather is nice, but the weather usually isn't nice in most parts of the country (the US West Coast is an exception to that). I'm looking at moving to a southern state now and the only reason I'm even considering it is that I would be living in a car-centered area where I wouldn't have to spend more than a couple of minutes a day outdoors during the summer. Compare that to NYC where I used to live: milder summers, but still hot, and I had no choice but to endure them (and winters, and rainy days) because I couldn't drive to most places I went to. The unpleasantness of that far outweighs all the advantages of walkable neighborhoods for me.

  • I gave up on console gaming for the same reason (the last console I owned was a Super Nintendo) but that's because mouse+keyboard is just so superior that using dual-joystick controllers feels like punishment rather than entertainment.

  • It's amazing. I use it as part of my work as a software developer, I get good advice from it regarding my personal life, and I can talk to it about topics that interest me but don't interest my friends. Everything is great right now but I'm genuinely worried about the near future, when it might be able to do the entirety of my job better than I can. At least I got this far - I wonder whether my friends' kids who were born recently will live in a future where they'll never be capable of contributing anything valuable.

  • And then they even expect me to look at pictures of their human children instead of looking at pictures of my dog... 🙄

  • I think the opposite is going to be true. One thing I noticed when I moved recently is that's it's getting cheaper to throw out perfectly good stuff and then buy it again rather than paying to have it shipped long distance too.

  • I think this one is on Muhammed.

  • I'd say it's like at a graduation. You can clap for a student on stage if you want to, and more popular students will naturally get more clapping, but you're not supposed to boo anyone at all.

I don't think that broadcasting the Olympics is "spreading knowledge" - the Olympics is a performance, and removing segments where things don't go according to plan is like removing outtakes from a movie.

  • No, because I don't think cheering and booing are in the same category here.

  • It's not just a matter of upsetting the government. People don't watch the Olympics for politics so I would have edited out the boos too despite having no love for Vance.

  • The endless battle between environmentalists and environmentalists.

  • So a 10 is a thousand times hotter than a 7? And a 1 is a million times less hot?

  • "Like a strong 7" is about as reliable as "6' 0" tall" as self-evaluation in the context of dating.

If 5 is average and 10 is "celebrity known for being beautiful, dressed up and wearing full makeup" then probably one in ten people is a 7 or higher. For the record, I'm 5' 11.5" and a 4 on a good day. My marketing pitch is "Below average but not so much so that people stare."

  • People told me that I should have trained my dog not to steal food, but the way I saw it, the dog was surrounded by people who had seemingly endless food and refused to share for no comprehensible reason. Any self-respecting animal would steal food in those circumstances. Dogs that don't have been brainwashed.

  • I wish it told me what the title of the deleted video was, so that at least I could know what I was missing.
