I aim to be more human. I aim to be less apathetic as a human. Apathy grows, like a tree, and I aim to prune my own.

  • Here’s the relevant bit about how it works, in conjunction with inhibitors:

“They discovered that mRNA vaccines work like an alarm, putting the body's immune system on high alert to recognize and attack cancer cells.

In response, the cancer cells start making the immune checkpoint protein PD-L1, which works as a defense mechanism against immune cells. Fortunately, several immune checkpoint inhibitors are designed to block PD-L1, creating a perfect environment for these treatments to unleash the immune system against cancer.”

  • I’ll play with you.

    Seriously.

I haven’t before but I’d love to. Last dnd I played was 3.5. I won’t touch anything else, except pathfinder and other non-dnd games.

  • Those are wonderful and I love them so much.

This is what happens when nerds get to name things.

It becomes highly problematic when it comes to the medical field and genetics, tho, like imagine telling someone their fetus is going to die because they have a sonic hedgehog mutation.

  • No silly that’s brawndo! Gatorade just isn’t there yet you see.

  • I’m actually a huge fan of stopping mid conversation, like when there’s a lull, and trying to piece together the convoluted paths we took from our topic of origin to the one we are talking about now. It makes for a very fun bonding experience because you have to work with your conversation partner as you’ll only really remember your own diversions a lot of times.

I find it helpful to understand how conversation flows work, but it’s also just a good tool for grounding yourself and recognizing that conversation is an evolution no matter who it’s with.

Also other people seem to also find it fun to track back through the conversation to reflect on the twists and turns it took and why.

  • Yep, didn’t realize I was replying to the vegan sub. Guess I forgot to block it on this account. My mistake.

  • Don’t be shaming people for cooking for friends after a night of drinking. That’s almost certainly what this is. And it’s a very nice thing to do, even if it’s easy food.

  • It’s probably just someone cooking for friends, probably after a lot of drinking (I’ve seen this sort of post before) rather than meal prepping

  • Did you know fish can see through glass the same way we can see in? As long as it’s not curved glass they can see pretty clearly.

  • This looks just like the pup I had named Charlie because of this video and he was very nibbly as a pup.

So cute thanks for the fun reminder!

  • See I mean that’s what I assume, too, but whomever starts their post with metric is clearly not used to the conversions into freedom units and so one must verify they did they math correctly. In case they are egregiously off the mark.

  • I’m with you on this. I have very few notifications enabled, and read receipts are off on my end (except signal, where like you I only have 2 contacts, and I don’t mind them knowing that I flaked to hell on replying, because they are also neurospicy or intimate partners, and we just have a sort of understanding that as long as we are still close, it’s fine to leave stuff until you can handle it.)

It’s really liberating. I can read texts and then set them back to unread so I know I need to follow up, but nobody else knows I’ve even seen it.

I genuinely wouldn’t be able to turn off notifications tho, not entirely.. I absolutely do not look at my phone enough to see the badges. Even with notifications on and set to re-alert 3x, I miss a ton of shit because I try not to use my phone much anymore (I doom scroll too much and video games are better for my health even if they are full of war crimes and sort of fucked morals like rimworld.

  • The irony is, it probably would make line go up because people who care would flock to that business, assuming they actually did the thing and weren’t just greenwashing. And assuming they weren’t trying to bend us all over and give it hard without consent over stuff like data mining.

Like, make me a cheap ev, something better for the environment and without all the spyware, and I’ll buy one.

I’d obviously prefer rail, but if I can’t have that at least I want something better.. but no I can’t justify it because I have to give up way too much privacy to use the tech, and it’s wildly expensive considering the privacy invasion.

So I just try not to drive now. I leave home, by car, maybe three times a month now. And it kinda sucks but it’s the best I can do.

  • Is that 7 toes lengthwise or side-by-side? And which American toes? Lady liberty, or a normal human adult, or a child? Perhaps a newborn?

Man I hate our measuring system, it’s so complicated.

  • I’m chronically online most days and I haven’t seen this on Lemmy yet, nor at all for that matter.

I hate when people whine about seeing stuff multiple times; at least this isn’t a depressing news article being shared in 63 different communities so you have to see the same thing dozens and dozens of times and be reminded how shit everything is..

It’s just a fun little picture with no bad vibes at all. I’m ok with seeing that sort of thing repeatedly.

  • Haha this reminds me of a sale sign I saw recently on a visit. It didn’t say garage sale, or yard sale, or rummage sale, nor estate sale.

No, it said EMIR SALE with an arrow, and zero other information.

What the fuck does that mean?????? I asked my friend who lived there and she also didn’t know. I figured someone was selling something specific, called emir. Whatever that might be; I’m pretty out of the loop.

Turns out it’s a street name. I guess they are selling the whole street?

  • I mean that’s cool and all but if a pod of dolphins showed up while I was swimming and started bumping me around or whatever I’d be freaked the fuck out.

I know they are smart and often helpful but they are also rapey assholes, and it would not even remotely surprise me if they hinder as often as help, if not more, and we just never hear about it because those people are dead now. They could easily drown me and I couldn’t do shit about it.

  • Wait, what’s it a euphemism for?

  • My tummy motility has always preferred veg-heavy meals, rather than meat. So for me, I’m very much enjoying the shift toward more veg/vegan options that aren’t just salad (salad isn’t a valid “vegan friendly” meal option at restaurants, imho. It may be vegan, but it’s hardly food.) or black bean burgers.

I tend to get the vegan or veg option when I go out to eat, if there is one. And oh man I miss the little cafe that used to be around here that had nothing but vegan food. Oh! And even better sometimes when I have to go near Rockford, il, I’ll stop at pig minds which is a brewery with entirely vegan fare that’s so good most people who go there don’t know it’s vegan at all!

As for buying stuff for myself from the grocery, well I can’t remember the last time I actually bought raw meat.. probably a year ago? That’s not to say I haven’t bought like lunch meat or hot dogs (on sale very cheap, went into the freezer for emergency meals), and a lot of the pre-made stuff I get does contain meat, but overall it’s just not in my shopping list anymore.

When my quail need to be culled I’ll be eating them, though. That’s half the reason I started raising them.
