  • Every few updates the read me, description or something contains some kind of statement on various world issues going on.

Search the hit hub issues for notepad++ for the word political. People complain each time.

I don’t care if he is on the rights side of the issue or note, just don’t like it popping up in software.

I thought my installer was infected the one time by to giant wall of default text when I opened it.

  • No I am saying people where coding html in plan old notepad way before notepad +

And separately with MS having popularity with VS code they likely ported the dev functions to ms notepad there is a good chance notepad++ was not the inspiration.

  • More likely they are direct ports of things from the highly popular Visual Studio Code as a lot of people used to bound out RAW HTML and other code in notepad for YEARS before Notepad++ was a thing.

  • It does contain random political statements however which is sometimes concerning.

  • Still no news on QuantumScape's factory actually going into large scale production.. so still... lab results..

  • Odd I have done the full setup several times As I run pure dockers / separate HA, Mosquito MQTT and Zigbee2mqtt and the devices all just auto discover and appear in HA has devices with entities with full control.

  • Yes but WiFi 7 FINALLY lets devices connect to multiple BANDS at the same time with a new feature called Multi-link operation (MLO).. IE the device can hold on to a longer range but slower band and more seamlessly transmit data over the best one at the time.

  • Guess they didn't learn when this happened to them with the noise cancelling in the Air Pod Pros, which resulted in them nerfing them, then fixing it in a new model.. Leaving a bunch of people with less effective noise cancelling after a firmware update.

  • Ya, having a lot of items, or odd items like vegetables or bulk items at a grocery store that need to have a code entered or need to be weighed suck at self checkout.

I would also say large items, but home depot and costco provide wireless scanners which work very well. Can just roll your cart up grab the scanner scan and go without taking stuff off.

  • I like self checkout as an option, almost everywhere.

I DON'T like REQUIRED self checkout.

  • A camera platform small enough to fit a standard door frame isn’t going to be able to hold serious optics.

We clearly have even smaller optics in smart phones, the limiting factor on doorbells seems to be depending on cheap optics, poor FOV lenses and then cutting the bit rate by only supporting 2.4Ghz vs offering 5Ghz or POE support. There are a number of cameras with good optics or secondary package cameras now to cover the FOV issue. There are even cameras that meet all the clarity requirements I have but are cloud only or are knowing to not work in cold weather at all.

The MAIN job of a doorbell camera should be for the security role of identification. As it will point directly at the face of someone the cheap ones do a bad job of this.

There are some videos showing just how WIDE the quality range is, but sadly very few tick all the boxes.

  • I am all for local however my biggest issues with video doorbells tends to be the field of view, image quality and operating temperature ranges.

I live in a climate where +30C and -20C will happen at least for a few days a year and quite often I have seen doorbells just go offline below when it gets cold outside or physically degrade in the heat.

I want a highly durable device. These ESPCam devices kinda have crap optics, I want to clearly identify people in the dark.

  • When I press the button I want all of the blinds to raise/lower at the same speed.

Not even my ikea ones that are all the same size / model rise exactly the same as the start signal from Zigbee sometimes gets to one before another. They go up at around the same rate but start a little off from each other.

  • Surprised no one mentioned the native option of paying for the native Nabu Casa tunnel, you also get some other benefits. It is by far the easiest option but not free. It does however support Home Assistant development.

Personally I just expose my instance behind Opnsense with an SSL cert, and some web application firewall rules using nginx but that is a more technical configuration.
