  • The fact that Israel is doing what it’s doing, Germany is doing what it’s doing(its far right is on the rise again as well), and we’re doing what we’re doing despite being the first human lifespan where we have literal video and photographic records and testimony of past atrocities really gives me disdain for my own species.

As a species, We seem to either be incapable of or refuse to retain the lessons of history beyond a single human lifespan. That’s quite limiting.

  • I don’t want Trump to be assassinated.

I want him to die of a heart attack on the toilet or in prison, though I doubt the second one is possible because rich asshole.

Assassinations make martyrs. I want his base to get tired of worshipping a feeble old man and move on.

What I DON’T want is him being elevated as the Republican mascot on t-shirts and signs as the defacto symbol of their idiocy for the rest of MY life. When this cycle is over, I really don’t want to have to see his orange clown asshole face again, let alone as the newest iteration of the confederate battle/don’t tread on me flag they wave around town to be annoying for the next century.

Let him be forgotten and fade into obscurity. It’s what he wouldn’t want the most.

  • If I could wave my hand and undo the victory of any President in my lifetime, it would not be Trump, it would be Reagan. Trump is a big, dumb, annoying animal, but never had any interest in effective legislating. Reagan, or at least the Reagan administration, took our country apart piece by piece to sell off, and converted/convinced their former opposition party to stop taking the paltry union bribes, join them in taking the massive corporate bribes, and made the best we can elect today to be feckless, hail corporate neoliberals. Since Reagan, we only get a vote on how to manage the social issue symptoms of our crony market capitalist economy, never the form or priorities of the economy itself as members of a free society would be able to.

Trump is just another symptom of the Reagan giveaway to the rich and brainwashing of the gullible poor. He is a baffoon that stole the entrenched Reagan grift out from under the Republican establishment that only used racism to lead their idiot base around by the nose by turning up the volume and throwing away the dog whistles.

IMHO, Reagan killed any hope for the US in its current form under its current constitution by giving capital holders all the power, Trump is just another bacterial colony outgrowth from its well looted corpse, just like Citizens United.

  • I hear you, and that’s a valid point, but I see that more as a function of our insatiable need for the primary driver of our destruction: growth/metastasis.

Growth is precisely what is destroying us. We need to find homeostasis with this world. We need to slow down, stop expanding supply chains, and work on making what powers these 100% clean first and foremost. Because right now, most electrics are functionally dirty too, their pollution just happens higher up the chain.

We won’t do that of course, because the reality is most people in the developed world need to accept that wasteful things like fast food, ridiculous amounts of meat, and plastic that serves no necessary purpose, everything from pop figures to disposable water bottles available to people with reusable vessels out of convenience, need to be made illegal yesterday if we want our species to have a decent future.

But our creature comforts are more important to us, and we will punish any politicians that try to call for genuine sacrifice. 🔥🤷🔥

  • It’s a Tesla problem in that it is a bumrushing tech that hasn’t matured for what it’s being used for because profit motive.

And no, if the tech isn’t mature to be both useful AND safe in the event of failure operating in the world, it belongs in the lab, not up for sale.

We shouldn’t be mass producing any vehicles that become bombs/environmental disasters that standard fire and rescue can’t appropriately address with reasonable tools upon crashing, because they inevitably will.

Its a market capitalism problem. Fire, ready, aim because rush the pos to sale. Musk is certainly a standard bearer as a prominent “get government and society’s wellbeing out of the way of my quarterly profit expectations” asshole sociopath capitalist.

  • “Sorry we don’t live our lives for the opportunity to destroy ourselves for senpai company owner like you.”

My supervisor doesn’t know how to maintain what I build, despite me attempting to show her. At this point, we openly pity each other, her because I have no desire to do more than what my job entails, take the paycheck, and leave to go live my life, and I because she proudly has no life to go home to because she spends 12 hours a day plus here acting like Jesus on the cross for the greedy, indifferent owner.

  • Hey, before I accepted there was no hope, I was pushing for such things. I’m far from special in that. Inside every cynic is a disappointed idealist.

And if there were a serious movement that was advocating doing more than peacefully protesting a cow statue on Wall Street as the planet and species enemies laughed out their windows above them, I’ll be there with bells on, as I imagine most current doomers would.

But the sun will sooner set in the east, and doing such things alone is just suicide with extra steps and just as helpful.

  • This is what I think of when the optimists still think they can save humanity from its own greedy, short sighted, self-destructive nature as the world literally begins to burn by our own hands after a century of warning:

We’re monkeys that are just smart enough to develop technologies we are still too bone dead stupid to wield responsibly. Unless we accidentally create a benevolent, hyperintelligent AGI in our pursuit of yet another tool for manipulation and greed that saves us from our own nature, extremely unlikely, this only ends one way. We are who we are and the tools we’ve fashioned have become dangerous enough to crush us under the weight of their capability, without one iota of temperance aka “maybe growth/metastasis should stop being our only goal” by anyone in power.

And somewhat ironically, the “our species can still turn it around! live in hope!” types are the same ones deadset against revolution to force those living large off destroying the planet to stop in a physical way. Something something cake, something something eat it too. This ain’t a movie, for humanity to have a future, we’d need to starve this and the next couple generations and tear down the polluting supply chains to live with nature again (like all those humans that did live with nature until they were genocided so someone with a flag could steal the resources under their feet) and bring our species down from the overpopulation cancer we’ve become, but we won’t entertain the reality that we can’t support 8 billion people sustainably, we made a dire mistake attempting to, and the species needs to drastically, painfully downsize to have any future at all. So we will burn in the Earth’s fever until homeostasis is restored.

“It’s become appallingly clear that our technology has surpassed our humanity.”

    -Albert Einstein

But by all means, keep trying to eat that cotton candy. I just hope it makes you happy doing it so it isn’t entirely without a point.

  • It’s flexing power.

Their central pursuit of capital is just the pursuit of power to wield over others.

At scale, beyond meeting personal material needs/wants, that’s what capital becomes, power over others.

You can fuck off and indulge all your hobbies in a mansion on the beach for the rest of your life long before you hit a billion dollars, but at those levels you want to influence elections/culture and control ever more people and resources. I consider it mental illness, I wish the rest of our society did as well.

  • they don’t care how they get more job done as long as it’s done.

    That is a ridiculous assertion.

Employers in the US absolutely care about flexing power for the sake of flexing power. It’s why many are against WFH (for their employees, not themselves of course) despite it being shown not to decrease productivity,

Do you believe employers desire for ever MOAR somehow doesn’t extend to having more perks and time than their underlings? Employees having more days off DEVALUES the employer fucking off for drinks and golf, oh I’m sorry “networking,” at noon every day by comparison.

Of course there are exceptions, but the larger the employer, the fewer there are, as growth/metastasis is a reflection of the insatiability of the employer’s greed. The ones with any temperance eventually stop, the ones that are incapable of being satiated don’t.
