  • Why is all you have posted just variations of this thread?

  • Speed bumps are not a new invention

If you buy an impractical car for the situations it's expected to be used it (i.e. British roads, long featuring speed bumps), you're just a moron.

Complaining to the council about your stupid decision is just weaponised incompetence

  • I feel for you guys that didn't get to live in the world pre-9/11 and pre-2008 financial crash. The world was just significantly worse in many ways after each, and never got to recover.

Though I will say the rate of these perma-shittening events does seem to be getting worse. Here's what I consider to be the big ones with related shit in sub bullets (caveat I'm British so a couple of things are more specific to my country):

    • 2001: 9/11 and all the pointless war and islamophobia that followed
    • 2008: subprime mortgage crash
      • 2010: Murdoch successfully blames the above on Labour causing the Tories to get in on an austerity manifesto
    • 2016: Trump & Brexit, leading up to this:
      • 2011: Alternative vote campaign fails thanks to the propaganda directed by the guy who does the same for the Brexit campaign. We didn't realise at the time but this was the trial run.
      • 2014: Putin tests the water in Georgia
      • 2015: David Cameron changes the BBC charter to allow government appointments to the board. What follows is a defanging of the news department and the installation of a load of right wing editors. This is a big contributor to Brexit happening and everything else that follows.
    • 2020: COVID
    • 2021: failed Coup in the US
    • 2022: Putin invades Ukraine
    • 2022: Liz Truss gets in and delivers an actual real-deal right-libertarian budget and policy platform, despite everyone with a brain telling her it would tank the economy. She does it anyway and instantly wipes £30bn of our country's wealth out of existence in a day.
    • 2023: the current Israel-Gaza conflict kicks off, quickly turns into a genocide with the support of the western world leaders
    • 2025: Trump gets in again and goes mask-off fascist
    • 2026: Trump starts invading other countries in an effort to distract everyone from the mounting evidence he is a disgusting human trafficking pedo
  • If it's a Windows machine why overcomplicate it? Just use Samba/SMB/CIFS (File sharing in windows)

I'm pretty sure most file managers on F-Droid will do it

If you want automation, look into Syncthing

  • I mean.... You can still technically use Eclipse if you're a masochist.... Android studio is head and shoulders above it despite all of the Jetbrains nonsense though

If you want to make a website, you still only need a text editor

If you want to make a C++/rust/go/python/Haskell/brainfuck application for something that isn't a phone? You still only need a text editor and a compiler

Like us showing The Grudge to an ant

  • The non-can-only-be-used-to-refill-a-bottle kind of water fountains being as ubiquitous as they seem to be, seems to be a uniquely American thing.

I don't think I've ever seen one in the UK since I was in school

  • So Gaspar Noé, H.G. Wells, Charlie Brooker or Lovecraft get to write your afterlife?

  • Nearly a century later, people still bring up how Hugo Boss designed the SS uniform, Fanta was made by coke to sell to the Nazis and Volkswagen was founded by Nazis and used slave labour to build military jeeps and prison transports.

Now, I'm not saying this is directly equivalent to those instances, but a lot of these American organisations think people are going to forget their capitulations quickly.

  • What a strange user

  • Dopamine

It's the same place the "made my life worse to own the libs" energy comes from.

They have fucked up reward systems and are seeking the brain chemicals they get from thinking they have succeeded in winding someone up

"Don't feed the trolls" is because that's literally what they want. They don't care about winning anything, the goal is to get you to reply

  • As much as this may well have happened, and is shitty if it did:

For those unaware, using the express as a source is like saying you overheard the news story from a racist loner in a pub

  • FRITZ!box are pretty good pedigree

Mikrotik are Latvian too I think

  • They don't make their decisions based on that directly, the money pays for propaganda. Given the ultra rich are now pretty clearly the root of most modern day problems we're facing, it's in their interest to spend any amount they can to ensure people lay the blame on people less fortunate, rather than sharpening the guillotine blade.

A lot of people bought into Thatcher and Reagan's neoliberal bootstraps bullshit, hook, line and sinker. Those people all believe success means you must have worked hard and been smart. The reality that everyone in the class of "successful" to them, is successful due to intentional or unintentional nepotism.

This is why they look to people like Musk and Trump as authority, they truly believe they actually did something virtuous to end up where they are and therefore have anything of value to say. This is rather than the reality where they simply won the birth lottery and decided to also be spiteful, unlikable assholes filled with contempt.

  • Laws aren't being followed currently

  • Why aren't you guys calling them concentration camps yet?

  • FWIW it's kinda coming from the American far right

Elon paid for, fascist pipsqueak, Stephen Yaxley-Lennon's legal fees when he got locked up for assaulting a pensioner.

There's a shitload of dark money that arrived into our current far right party du jour via crypto, almost the exact same instant Elon publicly said something in support of them (funding of British political parties by foreign nationals is illegal)

Twitter is still used by a lot of people in this country for some godawful reason.

We also voted for Brexit remember, we have a lot of homegrown morons here too

  • I mean, this is more the BBC who have a penchant for broadcasting nutjob views in the name of impartiality

Ground news is an aggregator that informs you of what kind of slant you'll get for any given outlet, it definitely doesn't publish any of its own news. The point of it is to make sure you are aware of how outlets you don't read are reporting on a given issue. Frankly the main use of that for me is knowing what nonsense my right-wing relatives are gonna otherwise blindside me with at family gatherings.

Now you can, however, definitely bemoan the fact that one of their bias data sources is notoriously biased itself though (Media bias fact check, which equates respectable centrist paper, the guardian, as equivalent in factuality to Breitbart, the literal nazi outlet).

Ground news just kinda says "here's what everyone is saying about a given topic", not that all views are equal.

  • I hate to break it to you but there's a malignant group of people using politics to make sure you don't enjoy your life.

Unfortunately opting out only ensures you get taken advantage of. In order to enjoy life, these people need to be stopped, and knowing what they are up to and why is a big part of doing that

This is a problem across the world FWIW, a primary goal of the international right wing cohort of politicians is to keep people from knowing about politics. As soon as anyone gets their head around the basics, they see right through the lies they make.

The antidote to right wing politics is simply knowledge.

They would not be able to garner enough support if enough people understood a vote for a right winger will, statistically speaking, categorically make their life worse.
