On Dec. 10, 2025, Guevara Brito was arrested by immigration agents in Metairie while he was out working as a package delivery driver. He told Verite News that he was made to wait roughly 40 minutes for Gregory Bovino, who led the immigration enforcement operation in Louisiana and Mississippi, to arrive, and that his arrest was filmed and shared on social media, which the family said was humiliating.

Guevara Brito came to the United States using legal means available to him as a Venezuelan national in 2024, entered the country through a humanitarian parole program, and filed an asylum claim. The family said they’re speaking out because they feel a deep sense of injustice about what happened.
