MST pide a Lula envío inmediato de petróleo a Cuba

Brazil's Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) has issued an urgent statement denouncing the intensification of the US blockade against Cuba as a "prolonged genocide" and demanding that the government of Lula da Silva immediately send oil to the island.

The statement, released on February 11, warns that the US offensive against fuel trade seeks to strangle Cuba under false pretenses of national security, as part of a plan of intervention in Latin America. The organizations point out that the blockade has caused losses exceeding two trillion dollars over six decades and is condemned by the UN, yet Washington continues to tighten sanctions.

“The escalation of violence constitutes a prolonged genocide, causing fuel shortages and paralyzing hospitals, schools, and transportation,” the text states. Faced with this humanitarian emergency, the movements are calling for an international campaign to send fuel, food, and medicine, and are demanding that the Brazilian government follow Mexico’s example: “It is a humanitarian, political, and historic decision to avert a human catastrophe and reaffirm the commitment to sovereignty, peace, and solidarity.”

The statement reinforces that, while the U.S. tightens the embargo, Cuba maintains its example of international solidarity.

THE SIEGE AGAINST CUBA DEMANDS IMMEDIATE SOLIDARITY FROM BRAZIL AND THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

MST

Colleagues,

Popular movements, trade unions, political parties, authorities and prominent Brazilian figures denounce the intensification of US aggression against Cuba and call on the Brazilian government to assume an active and supportive role in the face of the serious humanitarian crisis imposed by the economic blockade.

For over 60 years, the blockade has caused losses exceeding $2 trillion, and has been condemned by the UN, yet the US is intensifying measures, now targeting oil trade, under the false pretense of a threat to national security. This offensive is part of a broader plan of intervention in Latin America, while Cuba stands as an example of international solidarity.

The escalation of the conflict constitutes a prolonged genocide, causing fuel shortages that are paralyzing hospitals, schools, and transportation. An international campaign to send fuel, food, and medicine is urgently needed. We call on the Lula government to follow Mexico's example and send oil to Cuba, in a humanitarian, political, and historic decision to avert a human catastrophe and reaffirm its commitment to sovereignty, peace, and solidarity.
