ravachol

Context: François Claudius Koenigstein, known as Ravachol or the Christ of Anarchy, was a militant French anarchist who championed "propaganda of the deed"—using violence to destabilize the state. He specifically targeted the legal system, bombing the homes of Judge Benoît and Prosecutor Bulot to avenge anarchists beaten and imprisoned after the Clichy riots.

On March 30, 1892, he was captured at a restaurant after being identified by waiter Jules Lhérot. To Ravachol, the police and judges were mere "instruments of the bourgeoisie" that deserved destruction. Despite his arrest, he remained defiant; on July 11, 1892, he went to the guillotine singing a radical anti-clerical song, instantly becoming an icon of anti-authoritarian resistance.
