Hopefully the decrease in unhoused population continues to decrease due to actual changes implemented, rather than due miscounting.
I did the math based on the numbers presented: The article states an estimated 24 Billiion dollars spent on unhoused people since Newsom's entry into office (2019, 6 years), with an estimated 84,000 unhoused. That means we’ve spent about 47,619 dollars per unhoused person, per year in that time.
Edit This is a vary rough estimate, and assumes the number of unhoused was the same during all of Newsom's years in office (it for sure has not been), but it gives an idea of how much was given per person rather than just looking at the large, 24 billion dollar number.
