A quick question

In a socialist system of government where the Communist Party acts as the main social institution (the Big Cheese of the country, if you will), would there be other like-minded socialist parties who would either work cooperatively on a common cause in a "vanguard coalition" (like China or the DPRK) or would they compete a lot like a bourgeois liberal system?
