Yes, season 3 of Stranger Things sucked. But as someone who was a kid in the 80s, I always took it as more of an homage to the cheesey anti-Soviet movies at the time rather than an actual commentary of the USSR. I mean, the Soviets build a base underneath a mall in Indiana, not quite a plausible scenario.
