❗️Warnings over settlement plan on Qalandia Airport land aimed at separating Jerusalem from Ramallah

The Jerusalem Governorate has warned that Israel is moving forward with a major settlement project on the land of Qalandia International Airport, a step it says would sever northern occupied Jerusalem from Ramallah and its Palestinian hinterland.

Officials described the plan as a dangerous escalation in Israel’s colonial settlement policy, aimed at breaking Palestinian geographic and demographic continuity and imposing new realities on the ground that would undermine any political horizon based on a two-state solution and prevent East Jerusalem from developing as the urban and political center of a future Palestinian state.

According to the governorate, the plan would include the construction of around 9,000 settlement units in the heart of a densely populated Palestinian urban area encompassing Kafr Aqab, Qalandia, Al-Ram, Beit Hanina, and Bir Nabala. It noted that Israel’s district planning committee is scheduled to discuss advancing the project on 17 December 2025, potentially approving its core principles, while the Israeli finance ministry has already sought millions of shekels to “rehabilitate contaminated land” at the site in order to accelerate implementation.

The governorate warned that the project would create a settlement enclave isolating northern Jerusalem, involve forced land consolidation affecting private Palestinian property, deepen fragmentation and isolation policies, and constitute a serious violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.Source the cradle
