Communist deputies proposed placing the Victory Banner over the Reichstag on the 500-ruble banknote.

Депутаты-коммунисты предложили разместить на 500-рублевой купюре Знамя Победы над Рейхстагом

A group of State Duma deputies from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, led by First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Yuri Afonin, sent a request to the Chairperson of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, proposing that the image of Yevgeny Khaldei's legendary photograph "The Victory Banner over the Reichstag" be placed on the 500-ruble banknote.

Previously, in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory, a limited edition series of silver coins with the image of the Victory Banner was issued with a denomination of 100 rubles and a limited circulation.

One of the reasons for preparing the appeal was the situation with the public vote to select a symbol for the new banknote: the discussion turned into heated debate and even attempts to manipulate the votes, after which the Bank of Russia annulled the results. The decision to depict a photograph of the most famous symbol of the Great Victory on the banknote could resolve this dispute.
