#Natogate: scandal, fallout, reckoning?

#Natogate, explainedAmmunition, bags of cash and a web of (former) NATO officials – here’s what you need to know:
- Four corruption investigations linked to NATO’s procurement agency, the NSPA, came to light this year.
- Together with Le Soir, Knack and La Lettre, Follow the Money unveiled new details about the Belgian and Dutch investigations first announced in May.
- Two U.S. investigations in late stages were abruptly dropped by the Trump administration on 9 July, FTM and partners also disclosed.
- One of the dropped cases, involved Turkish military entrepreneur Ismail Terlemez, accused of having taken bribes while still working at NSPA in 2019-2020.
- Former DOJ officials said the cases raise red flags of political interference. “Both the motions to dismiss on the same exact day – that would be like lightning striking your house twice in one day,” one of the officials said.
