Getting started with Nostr and confused on profiles

So, I have a node which also has a nostr address for lightning zaps. But, what is the deal with setting up a public profile? I see this recommended page in docs, but I'm also not interested in putting info into some random page. Here is the recommended doc I found for getting started with Nostr.

Also confusing besides that is the use of the clients themselves. I see I can add access to whatever client, but I also don't want to randomly join stuff. Right now I see myself using a webui in terms of client access:

• Snort.social are recommended here.
• nstart.me 🤷 profile tool I was told to use, which is different than a webui client afaik

Should I be concerned in a similar manner to the Fediverse, where creating a profile is creating something permanent?
