WTF is up with Phylogeny and Taxonomy?

Can somebody explain to me why biology classes still teach taxonomy? Shouldn't taxonomy be one of those things where you bring up the creator, explain why it's important to the development of the field, like Edward Gibbon is to history, for instance, and move on to what people actually use today.

Linnaeus is taught like we're using Linnaeus's system, when we really aren't because it's all been recapitulated through an evolutionary framework, right?

At least that's my vibe, idk if this is a pedagogical issue or me not appreciating the nuance between taxonomy and phylogeny? Hexbiologists i call unto you
