For this Sunday Kino Night, first up is Landscape in the Mist (1988), a Greek drama about a pair of kids who voyage to Germany in search of their long-lost father, who supposedly lives there. Danger, confusion, and shady encounters ensue from there. Director is Theo Angelopoulos, the guy behind Voyage to Cythera (1984) and Eternity and a Day (1998), both of which we previously watched. This is often considered the best Grek film of all time, so let’s give it a whirl. Currently ranked #92 on the Letterboxd Top 250.

After that is Odd Man Out (1947), a British thriller from Carol Reed, the guy otherwise best-known for The Third Man (1949) and Oliver! (1968). An IRA agent (James Mason) in Belfast botches a robbery and must evade the police as they launch a full-scale manhunt for him; the tension escalates as his comrades and girlfriend enter the police’s crosshairs as well. Notable for its surprisingly sympathetic depiction of the IRA. This is considered one of Reed’s best, so let’s check it out.
