TIL that likely the very first person to ever survive rabies via inoculation was a 9 year old boy named Joseph Meister, who was infected in 1885 and inoculated by Louis Pasteur.

He later grew up to work as a caretaker at the Pasteur Institute, the same location where he survived rabies, and eventually committed suicide after he tried to protect the institute from the Nazi soldiers. He sent his family away, and incorrectly believed they had been captured. They returned just hours after his death.
