Swans are such majestic birds. I’ll probably catch some hate, but I like them quite a bit more than geese. I had a scary run in with some about a month ago. I was kayaking and birding and saw a trumpeter swan off in the distance behind a cattail stand. I was going to use the stand as concealment so I could get close, but when I got close two giant sized swans emerged honking and rapidly approaching. I’ve never back-paddled so fast. I thought for sure I was done for, but they eventually backed off. There must have been a nest in that stand.
