If they don’t reform they could make themselves irrelevant faster. So maybe it’s a positive overall.
It’s absolutely amazing how idiotic people are. I get wanting the warm fuzzy feeling of an afterlife, but the church has actively changed what “God” wanted to benefit the church several times. How daft do you have to be to not realise it’s a cash grab.
The Roman Empire just co-opted the religion, changed a bunch of stuff, and stomped out any other sects that didn’t fit their narrative of patriarchal oppression. Pretty sure big J would have hated what his “followers” are up to.
