How do you distance yourself from your country when it doesn't represent your views anymore so you won't be viewed by the rest of the world as part of the problem?

If my country’s politics get brought up, I just state that I do not support the government’s recent actions. (Don’t read that to mean I support my government’s actions at literally any point in history .)
