These bills are always a catch 22. They are easy pr cause who the fuck would speak up against something like child marriage? Then if you actually look into the bill you find it actually has countless knock on effects that put minors in more damage, removes protections for teenage couples such as a 17&18 year old dating, removes emancipation options, among other things.
Child marriage laws in a lot of states actually have some absurdly important parts in them and just striking them from the books with out replacement laws and considerations.
Those protections are the majority cases of these bills use cases. Yeah it also has some cases of EXTREMELY fucked up shit that happens as well.
But it’s very much a case of your saving more then your hurting. And going from a 70/30 split of help to harm to 30/70 help to harm. Is not a good solution.
Its a big reason these bills rarely go anywhere. No one wants to touch them cause good pr now becomes very bad pr later. Cause none of the fucking pedophiles have enough soil left to remove the bills they like but leave in the protections.
It’s always all or nothing. So the few sane politicians can’t vote to remove it with out being bad guys. And the pedophiles know it. The entire situation is fucked.
