Nobody prepares you for how little you give a fuck about most pop culture after you’re 40. Apart from AM, that list is basically alien to me. It’s not even a flex. I’m not proud of my ignorance, just slighty surprised by it. Music is a key part of my life. I dip my toe in popular culture from time to time, but I have a weird and visceral hate for it almost immediately.

And I cared little enough for it before I was forty. Pre-internet, you couldn’t avoid it if you engaged in entertainment in any way. Nowadays, it’s simplicity itself to find your own niche and avoid the unwashed mass’s opinions altogether.

I’m even older. I definitely listened to that one The Weekend song, and must have heard some Post Malone and Arctic Monkeys at some point in my life. But I’ve always been anti-pop. Taylor Swift doesn’t need my money. There are tons of obscure artists that deserve more attention.
