Original Title: TIL that during nuclear testing in 1957, an explosion was detonated 500ft underground and released a force 50,000 times greater than expected. This caused a 900 kg (2000lb) manhole cover to pop off and be launched into the atmosphere and likely vaporized, where it was never found.
