The original purpose of the game was to showcase all the problems derived from land concentration in a few hands. It was meant as an educative tool, made by an anti-monopolist. Then capitalism did its thing to it.
And you lose for a long time too!
Actually it’s often very fast in contrast. Assuming you’re playing the official rules and none of the house rules. Also having someone exploiting the game mechanics helps to speed up the process and make sure no one on the table wants to play the game ever again.
