This is an ice cold take that was outdated 15 years ago, but boy am I sick of new installments in a franchise just omitting the number from the title despite not being a new continuity. It feels like a marketing choice and just really annoys me. I fully acknowledge that it is completely inconsequential, I’m just petty about it for some reason.

It feels like an attempt to get people to forget that a bunch of bad sequels were made or something. It’s sequelwashing 😂

In the case of Scary Movie, given that this series is mostly spoofing contemporary horror films, embracing the fresh boot / reboot naming convention is basically their way of agreeing with you completely, only doing it in a lighthearted way rather than butt hurt way.

      Before it’s out it’ll be <movie title> (<year>)

But at least it’s not the 7th of 10 saw movies, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter
